MCS feels like it is "missing" at about 70MPH
I have 6500 miles on my '06 MCS, & on a trip this weekend, it felt like it was "missing" around 70. My husband said he's noticed it awhile ago, but the MINI dealership said if it was, I'd get an engine light. ANyone else having this problem? I'd love to go into the dealership & tell them what to do to fix this. Could it be the mapping?

missing
70 mph in 6th gear is approx 3000rpm in my 06 and it may be the dreaded "yo-yo" effect. I can sometimes feel what seems more like a small surge than an actual miss. No good solution for you except perhaps a reflash to ecu to correct it. I haven't done this as its two and a half hours to the nearest dealer. Good luk, Jim

So what is the dreaded "yo-yo" condition? Is it a closed-loop, lean condition? The reason I ask is because I fought that battle on my 2002 BMW R1150RT motorcycle. Same issue: at speed, cruising at partial throttle openings. It required an additional aftermarket device to set a new fuel map. A couple hundred dollars later, the bike ran like a different machine.

my giac flash got rid of any hint of it . but honestly i had very little to begin with. the detroit tuned bpv actually gave me the yo yo . so i did what the doc did and adjusted the stocker for a better seal . it has to do with where the engine starts to close the bpv. i wonder if this is why they changed the gearing on the 06's ?

My MCS runs smooth as silk at any rpm. If yours isn't, you may want to have someone look at it.

Did you get the "missing" effect dealt with? I have been noticing the same thing @3000rpm/70mph during small inclines while on the freeway. It has become more noticeable over a gradual period of time as well. I thought that it had something to do with the supercharger but I have a new one (now with 40k miles on it) that was installed by the dealer in Scottsdale. They are really good at what they do, so I figure that it might be something else.
At first I thought it had something to do with the high temperatures since I live in AZ. but because others have had this same issue in other regions, I doubt the heat has a substantial amount to do with it.
I am lost with this...the only thing I have done to my 03S is adding Royal Purple engine oil, Redline trans. fluid, Cobalt wires, NGK1 plugs and a K&N air filter. Nothing dramatic.
Also, I have noticed that shifting has changed as well. What I mean is, lets say that the vehicle usually shifts from 2nd. to 3rd. at 25mph. Now it shifts around 45mph. I know someone will say its operator error, but that is not what I am getting at. What I mean is that there does noes seem to be enough power to shift at the usual 25mph. Hope that makes sense.
Any ideas?
