Yippee! Thanks, Dan--because you posted this I called Heather, and I have an appointment Monday! You have the same options I have, so that's how I knew to call her. (Natch, she didn't call me first.)

Call your SA and take it in. They know exactly what to do at this point.

Looks like I got the bug as well. My DSC and Brake lights were glowing yellow last night all the way home. The car still drove well but I'm calling my local dealer today to see if they can pre-order the part. Started it up this morning and drove to work without the lights coming back on but I'm sure it'll re-occur.

Does anyone know if this is a redesigned part, or will we have this problem again down the road?

Hi All,

I got my SZL switch replaced today. Only a month and a half later. But the car is fixed. Man, can't get used to the turn signals cancelling automatically....guess it will take a while to get accustomed to driving a normal car again.

My SA was great. He's ordering the part and will advise me when it gets in. So far it re-occured only once more this week. I hope it keeps its head down for a while longer til the part comes in.

Scarlett's SZL problems started on Monday morning so I took her in for diagnosis and dropped her off. Part actually came in on Wednesday so I was able to bring her home then. YAY! I am sooooo glad it didn't take months like some have experienced. So far, so good!

Yeah, part of the delay was having to take her in for a SEPARATE "diagnosis," even though 4 out of 4 symptoms were reported to the SA. Seems a stupid way to operate, since it took a week for THAT appointment. And with all that, they still didn't determine that a different part was needed until they tried the one that most cars have needed. Just the differences in options.

Do you know what particular option you have that made the replacement part different to all the others?

As I recall, it is the auto-windshield wipers. Not sure, though.

Finally fixed! Of course, I had to make a separate visit to the dealership because the under-dash panel they moved fell down (naturally, I was on a trip when it happened). We were unable to fix it ourselves. Also had to reprogram the personal profile, but...

The problem has only happened once with me...of course I'm in denial, telling myself it was a one off...

Getting a new SZL as we speak. I'm glad...getting tired of manually cancelling my turn signals and (I'm ashamed to admit it) I miss hill assist. Apparently every failure is a bit different...some can be recreated, some are totally random. I swear temp had an effect on mine. Should have my car back Monday.

as long as you air out the car at least every few days you shouldn't have the problem again. I wonder how long the plastics have "heavy" outgassing for? I'd think having the cars closed up tight for weeks is what allows enough of the gas to build up and glaze the SZL window.

My SA said the module has been redesigned. If you're getting a code at all (thereby justifying replacement) I recommend fixing it just for the heck of it...that's what that warranty is all about. Someday you may be glad you did.

Okay...I guess a personal back-story is warranted. MINIs used to have a problem w/ ice getting in the door release cable so you could not open the door via the exterior handle. I live in Texas (mild winters) and was protecting my door handles from the rare ice-event. Sure enough, one time we had ice and it melted, refroze, and there went my door release. Now, I put off fixing this for years and fortunately got it done before my warranty expired, so it you have a valid claim, why not strike while the iron's hot.

Well today the lights were back on, so I phoned my local Mini dealer and took the car in. I told them it was probably the SZL module, as I had all the symptoms and an hour later they phoned me back saying it was indeed a faulty SZL module. They've ordered one and it will be about two weeks before it arrives. Luckily I'm off on a two week vacation, so I'm hoping it will be all fixed when I get back.

I had my SZL replaced today. They also downloaded a ton of R56 updates so watch for this next time you go in.

Hmmm,..good point.

But that gas mileage only happens when I turn off the A/C compressor.

Any idea if these updates did anything noticeable? Did you have to reprogramme anything?

I had to reprogram my 3x blinker function, and now my auto windshield wipers are controlled by the button on the end of the stalk, rather than lifting it slightly. I prefer this way, actually, and the newer build weeks already have it.

I still have to reprogram my functions. However, I no longer have intermittent wipers. (I don't have the automatic wipers)

so if you have normal wipers (non rain sensing) can you adjust the default delay?

Mine has 3 settings, default delay, slow, fast

the default delay is almost always too fast

Well I just took my car in this past week for this same issue!

They ended up sending the wrong part so I'm stuck with an 07 S Conv for a little bit longer.. Its okay though! The SA happens to be a good friend I hang with irl so of course I trust them. (Same dealer as Skuzzy and gokartride I'm sure)

Everythings been pretty smooth in getting them to fix the issue though. New wiper stalks will be pretty cool.. its like 1/1000th of a new car :D
