I put a deposit on my MINI in 1999. Took delivery in May 2002. One of the first MCS's in the area. Where in the Vin would it tell me exactly what production number my car was? Like 45 or 129 or whatever.

 

Well, the "serial number" of your car is the last 7 digits of the VIN (two letters followed by five numbers), but I don't know if they started from 00001, and I don't know how the letters figure in, sequence-wise.

When I checked out all the other MINIs that came over on the same boat as mine, the letters in the serial numbers for all the cars seemed like they were all over the place.

 

Didn't sales in the UK start quite a few months before the US? I wouldn't think that very early production units would end up in the US.

 

The VINS are different anyway. Even the VINs for US folks overseas are different than the US ones so there is no way to tell.
