Lousy MPG on my 06 MCSa

Hey,

Recently i've noticed that I only get around 17 MPG on my 06 MCSa, the only engine mods done to it is a Remus Exhaust, I don't drive it hard I usually let it coast a lot, but I still manage to only get around 17 MPG the car has a bit over 4k miles on it, and I use Shell 91 Octane V-Power Gasoline. Any advice?

Thanks!

Take it to the dealer for service. My wife's '05 MCSa gets 25-27 around town (she drives 8 miles or so one way to work). Was your mileage better previously?

Have you checked the air filter? This is a longshot given that you only have 4k miles on it.

It might just be that the car's engine was built slightly different, with different tollerances or something that yeild more friction. Though, this is a worst case senario.

My '06 MCSa has the same issue. It only ever got good mileage when we moved across country...32 mpg. Around town, NEVER better that 18 mpg and it's got almost 12k on it now

17, 18 inch wheels are really bad for the fuel efficiency. The smallest possible wheels that will clear the brake system is the best. But they don't look as cool as bigger wheels.

According the computer, we get ~25MPG on our stock 06 MCSA in mixed driving. Both the wife and I have a heavy foot. Never got 17-18MPG on the Mini. Usually get that or less on the RX7 though.

We almost always use Shell 91. The Mini runs funny on other fuels. Take it in to the dealer.

I get 22-24 in town and high twenties to low thirties on the road with mine.

I'm also running JCW injectors, Dinan intake, MTH tuner file and Borla exhaust.

Um, why would this be?

Rolling diameter is the same and the weight won't necessarily be more so how/why would rim diameter reduce fuel economy?

I think you can safely scratch this as a possible cause...

A similar situation happened to me as well and I determined it to be improperly inflated tires. Since I've never owned run-flats in the past, I never bothered to check the air pressure as the tires seemed to be properly inflated. Low and behold, my tires were sitting at like 13 psi. Once I corrected that, my fuel economy went up to ~24 MPG in the city.

I have some mods, but still average around 28 to 30 mpg in all around driving. Never lower than 22 to 24mpg even in town.

I also have an 06s with about 4k miles. I get 28-29 in combo driving & have gotten 32 out on the road. If I am HEAVY footed, the milage goes down but I still will get at least 23. Tire inflation sound very suspect to me as well.

I am getting 28/29 in town and 37/38 on the highway. My 06 MCS has 27,000 miles on it. I concur with the others, take it in to the dealer and have them check it out. Sounds like a computer/engine management system issue.

stop reading the mini trip info and do the math yourself! ithe trip computer is only a guide. not an exact reading. if you were getting 17 mpg, you would have raw fuel commg out of the tail pipes! besides, you only have 4k on it, let her brake in a little bit......... and check your tire pressures at least once a month

Definitely do the math yourself, that's what I do. Record the mileage and then divide the number of miles driven (always reset your tripmeter when you fill up) by the number of gallons required to fill the tank back to full.

Always more accurate to do it yourself.

we just got 29.4 MPG on a leg of an extended highway trip from San Diego to San Francisco. We were cruising at speeds of 80-90 MPH with a few low speed sections getting through LA around 30-40 MPH.

I was very surprised at the figure.

I have 06 MCSa. I am getting about 29 mpg average mix. I drive mostly highway though. But when I was driving mostly local, I get around 26-27 mpg. But the mini gets pretty good mpg because of its low end torque. In stop and go traffic, I shift a lot and I shift normally around 2k. and I am already in 6th gear at 40mph lol .
I red line the car about twice or sometimes more depending on the mood every week just to hear the supercharge whine. Its good to push the engine every once in a while. If I am doing that I dont care what mpg I get lol.

I have a 06 MC in response to the rim diameter being a factor it is!!! An 18in rim has a lot more rotating mass that has to be pushed. Even if the rim is an after market and weighs the same as a 15in it still has changed the gear ratio of your car making your gears essentially taller. I get 22-28mpg city and 30-45mpg highway at 89mph at 90-100mph I get 28mpg, 100mph-130mph 27-20mpg, 130-140mph 20-16mpg this test was made while running against an MCS. Make sure tire pressure is up , do not use AC if possible, and on highway keep windows up and sunroof closed or cracked only a little bit. I personally drive the heck out of my car constantly pushing it's limits. I only use shell, sunoco, BP, 91 octane and every other fill up I use marvel mystery oil.

The fuel consumption is the same...remember the odometer does not know if you have 15" rims or 17" rims. A 17" rim will complete less rotations in 5,280 ft than a 15" rim would. If the odometers are calibrated for 15" rims then 17" rims will appear to have worse gas mileage by calculation only.

Traveling 100 miles on a 15"... the 17" rim may say you only traveled 92 miles.

Again this is based only on what your odometer is calibrated for.

Oddly enough, we are now averaging 23-24 MPG according to the ECU. We reset it after my post above and have been monitoring the new figures.

I have an 06 MCSa, and during these cold months, I get about 20-24, mostly backroad driving. During the warmer months, and with more highway, I usually get 25-30 average.

Doesn't the winter fuel mix in the US have lower energy content than the summer fuel? Could this lead to the lower MPG readings during winter months?
