Ok, let me try to put it so that you may understand. I am hearing this hissing noise on the driver's side near the foot pedals. This noise resembles air being sucks in by something. It is heard best when excellerating, whether in gear or neutral, with and without a/c on. It started 2 days ago at night just for a short moment, say 2 miles. Today after a car wash at an automatic wash station the sound came back and is still here after 30 miles. You can notice the noise if paying attention during the starting process just as the engine starts to crank you can hear it. I hope you get the idea of this noise. Has anyone else have this problem? If so what is it or what do you think it may be? I took it to the dealer almost right after it started and the guy says he doesn't hear anything abnormal and told me to make an appointment, so I did, but I am getting not to like the service I'm getting. He must think I like to drive it there and het him here nothing. Help please.

That sounds like it could be your power brake booster leaking. It operates with engine vacuum. Next time you hear it, press the brake pedal and listen for any change in the noise. There is a valve that operates the booster when the pedal is pressed and it's generally in the interior side of the booster.

Greatbear, thanks for the input. I had an assumption it may be some sort of vacuum, because of the sucking sound, but am not familiar with this. And had no idea it would be remotely related to the brake booster, but I will check it out later tonite.

Thanx

Well I have to continue here and add more info on my problem(if it is one) but I think so. The noise once again sounds like lots of air is being sucked in somewhere on the driver side, I could say near the pedals, tough to pinpoint but definitely down there. The noise is only noticable from the inside of the car with the car doors shut, can't hear it from the outside or under the bonnet. I tried the idea Greatbear suggested but don't think I noticed a difference. I swear it never used to be there and it's getting very irritating because it seem to be more constant now. If someone could just test their car next time their it. Shut the doors & windows, drive the car and try and notice any noise from the lower front driver side, if it's there you'll notice it, it can be heard from standstill too. Again it sound like lots of air being sucked in somewhere.

Thanx Peter
