There are some who are doing a refill service, and you can do it yourself. I'm of the school of thought that the leak is the FIRST failure, so refills are just buying time. But to be fair, if it's enough time, then all's good there!

Removal of the SC isn't hard, the most difficult part is getting over the fear of tearing the front of the engine apart. It's easier than it looks.

Yep, Wrecking yards are generally charging $500 to $600 for theirs and the lowest mileage SC I found at a junkyard was 4k miles.. Which isn't bad at all but almost ZERO miles sounded way better and couldn't pass up the Deal!

And refilling it will buy you time... as long as you refill it in time!!!
And it will always continue to leak.. at an extemely slow pace!
So a better sealant b/n waterpump drive and SC is the ultimate fix!

Taking it all apart only took a few hours (could take much less). And there wasn't even that much that we had to take off! So it is a pretty simple job as long as you keep all your bolts labeled!

Tuesday is TOO far away!!!

a few years ago...

I bought a JCW take off with under 40 miles for $300, prices vary. For sure, as the fleet of Minis ages, I'm hearing more and more of these types of failures.

So if you want to keep your 02-06 MCS for a long, long time, keep an eye out and buy a SC when you get a chance. Now I'm glad I have one sitting in my garage... But I took it off my car with a bunch of miles on it, so maybe I'll send it off for a service at some time, and just put it on the shelf...

I honestly don't know if the P&P really makes a good benefit or not, as a bunch of other stuff went on the car at the same time. I got mine done through M7/Stiegemeyer (the name I never spell right). Endyn does it as well. And there's a third company I read about in another thread.

I was wondering how much they were new NOT from the dealer if even possible.

A while ago I found a used 2005 SC on ebay and I got it for a VERY lower price. The auction was just not advertised very well with the right words. I set on it for a while and then just recently sold it for more than I paid. I probably should have kept it around but I currently have 49,000 miles and I got what I wanted for the SC to make it worth while.

Has anybody decided where its leaking and losing its oil from?

Also, would the job to refill it be as involved as it is for you to take the SC off?

But it's over a grand. E-mail the Classic Auto Campus people to get the NAM price if you want to know for sure.

And yes, there are those that have refilled the resevoir with the SC on the car. I'm sure it's a royal pain the first time, and just a pain the next....

There is only one place for it to leak...
and thats right where the 2 pieces in this picture...


There is no gasket that goes here. Just whatever Eaton used to seal the joining pieces... If anything?

There was a of grime and old dried, dirt filled oil that had leaked out over the past years right underneath the "seal" these two parts made....

May sound obvious but...

This seems more like an age thing rather than a mileage thing. I mean although uncommon there are some 100k and over MCS out there that were made after 05 and I havent heard about anything happening to those. Heh, maybe if this ever happens to me I will go with an electric water pump and look into Rotrex/Turbo only.

There has also been many early model SC's last far past 140k...
So who knows... I've read some threads where they have died as early as 60k...
There is no set mileage or year or whatever... You just gotta hope. And do plenty of preventative maintenance.

Yeah,
I talked to Jan about that option...
And when it comes out for production... its going to be a little out of my price range for now.
But sometime.. Someday... The Rotrex sounds promising!

So, what is the chance of making a gasket for the connection on a rebuild or refill? You can buy gasket material at almost any auto shop.

I find it highly unlikely that the fluid is coming out between the 2 surfaces. I am pretty sure mine lost its oil through the seal internally.

Since the distances are pretty critical, the MOST I would put between those two pieces would be some aluminum case sealant. Basically the same gasket maker that one would put bewteen the 2 halves of the transmission case.

Okay!!!!
Got my car back together today!!!
And its running better than ever!!!
Its awesome not hearing all that rattling like i have been hearing for the last 15k miles from the gears in the SC!!
Only took about 3 hours to get everything back together (along with new DT Bypass valve, radical red samco radiator hoses, Canton reservoir and lots of blacked out parts including throttle body, intercooler, radiator and intake runners coming off of intercooler)

Good golly I can't wait till Jans tune in Jan at Helix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
