Clutch Groan?

Since the weather got colder in the mornings when I pull my 05 S (24k) out of my covered parking space and disengage the clutch (going slightly uphill) Ive been getting a groaning sound that goes away once the pedal is back to normal. And it's not consistent; yesterday AM it was 12 degrees and the groan was loud; today it was 23 and there was none. It also doesnt groan when I engage the clutch, only disengaging it when the car is moving forward. Doesnt seem to be getting worse, and it also doesnt do it when above 40 degrees.

anyone else experience anything like this? Im hesitant to get my dealer involved until the groan, if it happens, becomes commonplace--ya know reproducing the sound at the d'ship issue--but then I only have 10 months remaining on my warranty, and I know these clutches are mucho dinero to replace. Thanks in advance, JB

Clutch Groan

I have the same problem on my 03 S with JC Works Package and 31K trouble free miles....doesn't do it when it's warm...and only does it once when I start out on a cold morning..( if Southern California can ever be considered as having COLD mornings) ...I believe it to be the throw out bearing complaining but it's only a guess...don't really consider it a big deal...will check it out at clutch replacement time.

I get it on cold mornings as well. It only does it once and then after driving a few hundred yard it does not do it again. I am not worried and don't really plan on doing a clutch replacement as I never abuse the clutch. I have 50k miles.

My '06 S developed sporatic clutch groan when it had about 2000 miles on the clock. Took it in to the dealer and they replaced it under warranty- problem solved.

If it sounds like a pigeon mourning the loss of its pet giraffe... then it's pretty normal.

61k and no clutch issues aside from the pigeon thing.

Mine does the "dragging a metal chair across concrete" sound when it's cold & only for the first few times I engage the clutch in the morning. I've heard people say don't worry about it & others offer really long part replacement explanations that I don't understand. It doesn't seem to effect my driving so I will just keep going til something falls off

My '03 S with 34,000 mi. has been making the sound for about a year, but the clutch action is fine. I'll do something about it if and when the clutch goes belly-up!

If it sounds like a muted version of chewbacca groaning.... take it in.

i took mine to the dealership with this problem two times. since it is a random problem, neither time were they able to recreate it.

the flywheel was replaced but that didnt fix it. it has to be a clutch issue...

Exactly what it sounds like, why can't I think of these things? Glad to see others experience this groaning in cold weather. I'll have it checked at 2nd inspection soon.

I get the clutch "grinding sound" when it is cold too. It's a sporadic thing. Never does it when it is above 48 degrees. I'll just keep monitoring it.

3 years and 50K of that noise and still no problems. I even get it when I let up on the gas. Hummm, maybe it's something different. Any clue?
