Thumping Noise After Shutdown
#28
Over several cars it has done it different times. I think it has more to do with humidity levels than actual temps in some cases.
Others suggest cooling system. YES..I've heard of that too when there is an air bubble in the system. It maybe needs to be burped!!! (seriously).
The expansion tank is under pressure when hot. Maybe try when cold, leaving the cap off for a few minutes after starting, so there is no pressure build up!! This can allow the air to come to the tank and bubble off!!. The pressurized system keeps the air in there!!!
One way to know there is air in the cooling system, does your car take a while to heat up, but after it's warm it's OK? gauge is fine etc?
If your antifreeze levels are fine and not loosing much if any, and your heat and gauge function normally there is likely nothing wrong.
If your still worried, and have not had the dealer look at it, maybe that's your course of action? You have to be comfortable with the car. You know it best and know if there is a REAL problem or not in many cases.
We all make noises (some we wish we didn't ) but doesn't mean there's anything wrong with us....(ok nuff from any peanut galleries out there )...
Regards
Scott.
