Power Steering Fan?

I recently took my 03 MCS to a garage and was advised to replace my P/S fan before my power steering motor failed as a result. The fan was very dirty and difficult to turn. I cleaned it up, replaced a blown fuse in the cabin and by the grace of the cooper gods it worked. I hopefully saved myself $200.

My only concern is how noticeable it is to the driver/passenger when it is running. It vibrates the cabin when operating. Is this fan suppose to be inconspicuous when in operation? Do you notice your fan when it's on?

If it is vibrating and you hear it in the cab that is not good.

why don't you replace it.

try this site for cheaper oem parts? I haven't used it but others here have.

At most, you should only hear a whining sound from the PS fan. Noticeable vibration tells me one or two things: bearing going, going, gone or serious fan blade imbalance (not likely). Get a new one.

PelicanParts is another option, a BMW parts source for MINIs.

Thank you, this is what I needed to know. Although, what a waste. I could've used that $200 bucks towards an aftermarket upgrade instead of replacing defective parts.

Realoem and PelicanParts are related, I believe. You search for your part # at RealOEM, and input it in the PelicanParts search bar.

I have a power steering fan related question. I ran my battery dead cause my power steering fan would not shut off. first I thought it was just a fan running to cool my engine. I also found that checking the relay/fuses for the P/S fan in located in an area where I have to take off several things to get at it. Do you think it is just my relay/fuse??

thanks to anyone who can assist.
