iPod Nano not updating Recently Played with factory adapter

My ipod is not consistently updating the Recently Played songs list when I have it connected to the factory installed iPod adapter. I only noticed this because I used the Last.fm iScrobbler, but my 1st gen iPod nano does not update the Recently Played list consistently. Today, only one song that I listened to on my 60 minute trip showed up, one that happened to be playing when I took a phone call while my phone was connected through the bluetooth option. Other times, all the songs that played before the phone call will appear, and yet other times, songs that I played after the call will appear.

When I sync with iTunes it of course does not show the list update, and when I look on the iPod itself, before any syncing (immediately after playing songs via the Mini adapter) the songs are not there. This problem ONLY happens while plugged into the Mini. If I play songs while not plugged into the Mini, every song appears in the Recently Played playlist.

So... has anyone else experienced this? Or heard about this happening with other devices?
