tire pressure monitor question

i was just wondering if im the only person who's tire pressure light turns on when the temp changes from about 70 to 50. i know that this doesnt mean my air is low just that the density of air is different at different temps. i just reset it every morning that this happens but does this happen to anyone else?

Have not experienced this and have seen more extreme temp fluctuations than that...ie. 70-30 degrees farenheit.

You should have your TPMS checked out by the dealer.

well thing is both of my minis are doing this. which is why i figured it probably wasnt the tire pressure monitor. it gets colder than that here too its been about 85 during the day and will drop to 50 at night but ive checked the tire pressure two days in a row and they are all fine in both minis.

I travel by air a lot so the Mini stays in the Garage during the week. This winter whenever the temperature changed from the last run (especially if it goes below freezing) to the the next startup, the monitor goes off! I just get out, check the pressures, then reset it.

Put nitro in your tires, that'll fix it (just kidding). I've heard various stories about tire pressure sensor warning lights going off. I'm glad I don't have them.

So when you check the pressure, are the tires low?

No, the pressure is at the recommended level and hasn't changed from a week earlier?

yea i think its just that the temp changes and the tire pressure monitor goes off. i mean i drive home for about an hour so the tire temp gets pretty high and then im waking up in the morning to about 50 degrees when the previous day it was about 80 and i sat in traffic. i know that obviously the colder or warmer it is the air density changes. i think its just that because my tire pressure hasnt changed at all over the past few weeks.

I have had this issue twice with my mini. Once on a trip when the temp dropped below freezing the night that we had stopped. The next morning the warning goes off. I get off the interstate just to check and everything was fine. The other time was again when temp dropped below freezing. Checked everything again and OK again. Kind of a pain to check something that isn't a problem. The monitor seems kind of sensitive or the programming isn't quite right to account for temp changes.

I've also noticed that my DSC doesnt work during these odd times when the tire pressure monitor goes "off" in the cold temperature. I bet there is going to be a software release that fixes this soon.

A 10 degree change in temperature corresponds to roughly a 1 psi change in pressure (due to density as already noted).

Called my dealership today and their service department has a new message explaining to people that the fluctuations with the recent temperature changes (we're in the NY/CT area) will make the tire pressure monitor go off, that people should check their tire pressures, reset, etc. Hasn't happened to us yet...maybe the 1st Generation version was a better one?

This happened to me this morning on my 2008 Clubman. I did stop at a service station to check the air pressure (as the snow was falling) and it seemed right. I added a little and reset the computer. Warning lights went off and everything seems fine. We will see what happens on the way home tonight.

happened to me once about a month ago. around the last time the temps dropped. i checked the pressure and reset and havent had a problem since. i would imagine other cars that have tpms would be having a similar issue.

Does anyone know at what pressure the thing goes off? i always thought there had to be one tire that was lower than the rest to set it off. Maybe not, huh?
