Seat Heater Wires?

What are the three sets of wires running from the middle of the carpet under each seat up to black, blue and yellow connectors under the front lip of the seat?
My car (2004 MCS) does not have the seat heater option but I am wondering if the wiring is already in place.

Thanks

Be very careful, I can't remember which color is which without checking my Bentley, but one set (yellow I think) is connected to the air bags in your seat. If you disconnect those wires with the ignition on or turn the ignition on with those wires disconnected you will set your airbag failure light on your dash. This light can only be reset or turned off by a person with an advanced code reader, not the cheap versions.

Yes all airbag connectors are yellow. I believe that is the case no mater what the car. Maybe it's an international standard for pyrotechnic devices in cars.

Just remember if you disconnect them, make sure that the battery is disconnected and you will not get any bag alarm or other problems .

I have an '06 cabrio with heated seats, and it has five connectors under the front of the seat! No idea what each of them are connected to.

I've heard that all seat covers already have heating elements, whether or not the car has the heated seat option. MINI has a retrofit kit for heated seats, and it's probably what you need: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...25&hg=52&fg=95

Can we add heated seats after the car has been built? Has anyone done this? And where you put the switch or button to activate them.

I stumbled on a post that gave links to these, a writeup and official instructions for retrofitting heated seats:
http://www.motoringfile.com/2005/02/...t_-_in_action/
http://www.motoringfile.com/2005/01/...seat_retrofit/

funracer, the instructions list a 3-pin black connector under the seat for heating.

The instructions say that seat covers with heating elements must be purchased separately from the retrofit kit. However, the instructions are dated 2002, and I've seen someone post that they discovered their seat covers have heating elements even though they didn't get the heating option, and realoem doesn't seem to list different part numbers for heated/unheated seats. If your seat has an unused 3-pin black connector underneath, it probably has the heating elements.

So what parts do we actually need to get the heated seats working? Anyone?

Thanks RKW! That covers it for me.

The other wires would be for occupant sensors.

I don't think all the seats have the heaters either.

There are 4 connector on my 2002 w/ heat. Airbag, heat, and the Other connectors are for the seat belt pyrotechnic tensitoner (the barrel shaped thing on the inboard side of the seat by the tunnel that tightens the belt in the event of impact), and the last is for the seat belt sensor to trip the warning if the seat belt isn't on when the car is on.

my MA told me The wiring for heat is in all the 2002, but sometime shortly after that the wiring only went in to cars that had the seat heaters on the build sheet.
