flapping noise on acceleration???
hi, been floating around reading threads every now and then.
Anyway, noticed something strange so thought id ask for some advice/help.
I was driving down the highway today at 100km/h and i noticed that when i pushed the accelerator i could hear a flapping noise. the flapping was only when i pushed the accelerator. when i took my foot off it stopped straight away. It's obviously coming from somewhere up front in the engine bay, but i have no idea what?
after that, if i listened hard enough i could hear it at lower speeds. but it was quite noticable at 100km/h speed.
Im not exactly sure if its new or not, as i usually put the music up when driving to block out the whistling noise lol
any help is much appreciated!
Forgot to mention, got a 2002 build mini cooper (yes non S)
thanks
Jono

Check for noise in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear to see if it starts around 3000 rpm or so. If it's there, check this thread:

thanks for that link! im in the middle of reading it now.
however, mine seems to act a little different.
Firstly i have noticed i cant really hear the noise in 1st or 2nd gear no matter how much i rev it.
Secondly it seems to be more speed related than rev related in mine.
It starts at about 80km/h. At this speed in 3rd it will be quiet but noticeable.
when i move to 4th or 5th it is more noticable (im pretty sure its not just the engine noise going down making it seem more noticeable). In 4th it starts making the flapping noise at about 2700 revs. It seems to come from the right hand side of the engine bay. And i believe it may be slightly more louder in 5th gear. Im wondering if this could be a transmission problem? and if so why the front right?
anyway, i'll keep reading the other thread, it seems quite lengthy!
cheers
