Windshield Whistling

I've got a high pitched whistle coming from my windshield at high speeds which led me to take it to the dealer. They tell me that warranty covers it, however, when they remove the glass to reseal it, if it breaks while they remove it, I have to pay for a new windshield. Does this sound right?

No it does not. Mini has to do whatever it takes to resolve the problem. If they have to replace the windshield to correct the problem that is for Mini to pay for.

Give me a break! They un-install the windshield incorrectly, crack it, and then charge YOU for the part they broke? Don't let them pull that on you.

chips dont break windshields poor workmanship does. But if the windshield already has a split crack on it then most likely with the preasure used to remove/replace the windshield might break. But the whistle noise is nothing new. at high speeds that piece of rubber on the top that splits between your roof and windshield is loose and lets air in causing the whistle. if you press down hard enough on the rubber seal it wont make that sound anymore. Most likely that would give you a short fix then you would have to do it over again. I had the same problem but 2 weeks after noticing it an 18 wheeler kicked up a rock at my windshield and cracked it straight across so i couldn't take it to the dealership for service unless i was willing to pay 800+ for a new OEM winshield to be replaced. When i got the windshield fix (none oem) i have yet to hear the whistle at high speeds. If you have not gotten it fixed ask them to replace the seal. This may fix the problem. Also mini's are not the only vehichles with this problem. I been in a scion and a honda with the same problem. But this is all from my experience. Hope this helps you out.

this kind of comment deserves a call to 1 800 ASK MINI(MINIUSA)this is just so much crap. The whistling is most likely a function of either an improperly installed windscreen, or the trim about to fly off.Either way this is a warrentee issue as long as the time and mileage are within spec, and should be corrected Gratis(free) Don't let them try to pull this stunt on you. If you need a replacement windscreen, get a PPG aftermarket replacement , they are SO much better than stock.

I have the same problem in my 06, except the whistle sounds more like a kazoo and it seems to be coming from the bottom of the windshield. I haven't tried massaging the rubber, but I might give that a whirl. My magic number for the kazoo concert is 80 MPH.

it was already an issue brought to mini. If you go to the official mini website and visit the owners lounge and log in and all that. look up windshield whistle. They have found out what the problem is and how to fix it. what i posted earlier is what i remember from reading it from that site "mini usa owners lounge". It is either one of the seals from the windshield most people experience it from the top some from the bottom.
