Extended Warranty or NOT!

I hit 33000 miles on my 2006 MINI S in 17 months. The second service was done at 33150 miles. I am clocking about 2000 highway miles a month and my extended warranty and service agreement (50,000 miles) will be out in about 8 months.

I can extend the extended warranty (3 years or 100,000m) for about $2,800 and the service plan can be extended to 100,000 for $1,500 equaling $4,300. Is it worth it?

I have read that some MINI’s can have huge expenses while others just keep going. FYI – I have a 2006 MINI S with steptronic trans, auto ac, sun roof, and xenon lights.

Thanks
LGK

has the car caused you any major problems in the past? at this rate you will blow through the extended in another 2-3 years at the most. $4,300 is a lot. its almost 20-25% the worth of your entire car (if you were to trade it in today).

why not just trade in your current car in at the end of the warranty, and keep your $4300 for a down payment on a brand new one. to keep you payments the same or even lower.

No major repairs or costs except tires and gas.

I just took delivery of my MCS (flav - it's ds/b!) a week ago tomorrow. I am trying to decide if i want any of the extended warranties or road hazard insurances. I cant really answer the question if i've had major problems in the past b/c i just got it.
Suggestions?

Would you happen to know a link? Is it consumerreports.org? If so, is there a way to read without subscribing and paying?

Me thinks one has to subscribe. They're on the newsstand however. PS-Found this: http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?sec...mer&id=6027883

Extended Warranties?

I know first hand just how much the warranty companies make. Put the $4300 into the bank & let it grow. Then if you have a problem, the cash will be there. In other words....self insure.

I don't mean to hijack the thread; however,I know that the extended warranty isn't worth it, but does that same feeling apply for the extended service plan? While, I am fine with doing my own oil/brake work, I do not have the set up to do something as "large" as a clutch replacement and thus a 100k service plan would be something I may consider.

Last time I checked a 2006 MINI was a SECOND generation car ? I think you're in the wrong forum.

No 2006 is last of the first generation MINI's. I still can't accept the interior updates in the "new" MINI and no key!, that is just weird!

2006 is the last of the first. still has the old supercharger setup. there was a small refresh between 2004-2005 but that was not considered second generation.
