The cat on my '07 was replaced at mini dealer 400 miles ago (about 3 weeks),
Today the CEL came on while driving about 60 mph. Drove 5 more miles. Started the car 2 hours later. CEL on again. Can't get appt. at mini dealer for 10 days. is this serious? can I drive the car?

'07 Mini Check Engine Light

I couldn't get to the dealer for a few days. When I went, it turned out to be a faulty High Pressure Fuel Pump. The dealer said that, even though the pump was working, it was sending error messages. Good thing it was under warranty - the bill would have been $1000. Good luck.

On the first gen cars U could reset stubborn CEL lights by starting/stopping 3 cycles. If that doesnt work then yes call the dealer, dunno about the new cars tho.

(for example, we have high mtns U can drive 14,000 feet up. With my 2005 MCS up that high the oxygen sensor would get outta whack and trip the CEL, and 3 S/S cycles at normal altitude would cancel it) Worth a shot

I thought my 07 MINI's catalytic converter recall was taken care of. As my car passed 36,000 miles warranty period, the stupid light came on along with this very annoying sound. Is this issue covered by the manufacture? Or, do I have to pay to get it fixed from now? Any advise is appreciated.

You will be fine. First the 36,000 mile warrantee is for service (oil, brakes, clutch) but all the main parts are covered by a 50,000 mile warrantee. Emissions components also have some sort of federal regulation to get automatic 8 year and possibly unlimited miles warrantee. It wont cost you a dime and if they try to raisem hell

my 07 had the cat go bad about a year ago, only had 25K on it. So many problems, so much time at the dealer.... At least I can usually get an appointment the same day, and a loaner. Warranty runs out in 6k miles, I will be selling soon.

I went in for my annual service on my April 07 MC. The dealer looked up his records and said that there was a recall on my cat. They gave me a loaner for 3 days, delivered my car to my house 30 miles away and picked up the loaner. Thats good service. didnt even charge me for the gas.

My check engine light has came on twice in 30,000 miles. First time, I chased fault codes and talked to two service techs that could not figure it out. The light would not stay off.

Then m 80 year old nieghbor told me to clean the gasket on my gas cap and the fill neck. He also said put a thin layer of vasoline on the gasket. The check engine light will go off in 5 engine starts.

Worked both times.

Apparently the dirty gasket on the gas cap leaks pressure from the tank causing an emissions fault code.

Try it - its strange but it works on my Mini.

just had my 07 mcs (sidewalk) towed in for service. this is the 3rd time this has happened. @least once a year since i purchased the car. CEL comes on as well as my EML.. decreased engine output and today the engine turns off after the car is started...

any ideas on what could be the problem?? could it be the CAT? i only have 18k on this car.

TIA!

Cleofe - While it is possible you have a bad cat, it was only the 07 cooper that had mass cat replacements. There was a recall for them.

I've heard of very few S models needing a new cat.

They replaced the manifold and Catalytic converter with new ones. They said that the '07's got a bad batch of cats from whoever makes them and apparently it's a known issue with 07 models. They also topped up all my fluids (after 11k miles i was about a quart down on oil) Anyway, the gist of this all is that it seems the 07's got a bad batch of cats.

I'm in Houston too and working on a friend's 04 that also had a cat go bad, its rattling around and appears broken up. I'm also a free-lance mechanic and can work on your car for much less than the BMW rate. PM me if you have interest in contacting me. Cheers!
