loose interior sunroof trim
FIXED!!! see below if you have this annoying issue!
has anybody found a way to fix the loose sunroof interior trim? mine keeps coming loose and i cannot for the life of me figure out how it pops back into place- if it even does? this is the trim for the front sunroof, my rear sunroof trim is still nice and snug.
i've tried a number of things from double sided tape to blue tack and nothing is helping. but, didn't think it would just took a go at it. any help would be great as i'm afraid it's going to fall on my head while i'm driving.
thanks in advance.

If it is that loose, then you should do something about it.
When chasing down a rattle years ago, I removed the front and back sunroof trims. When putting them back, I remember that it took some effort to get them to "snap" back to their place -especially after putting thin layers of foam under contact points. Did you try to get "all" the layers into the trim? It should hold everything together...
Good luck.

not sure what you mean exactly by all layers. looking at the panel i don't see exactly how it pops up and stays in there.
i've got it back on decently but, once again it is not nice and tight. rear roof trim is nice and snug. it's been a concern of mine for awhile and tonight i tried fiddling with it to tighten it up and it kept falling down. i finally got it up well enough to hold but, it's still loose. it's been this way since i've owned it and i have read others have this issue but i havent found a solution via the search.
maybe i need to examine it closer but, it seems like it just barely sits in the cavity with not much to hold it in and it's free to "jiggle" around. maybe adding foam like you did to it helps to make it a tighter fit.
did you use some type of truck camper top foam?
i'm in the process of fixing up my interior to lke new again. not much to do but, a few small things.

As k_h_d mentioned, you'll need to get the tabs "above" the liner to click in place (that's what I was trying to explain with "all layers"). The foam helps to keep it in place more snugly, but it will also make it little hard to snap the tabs back to their place. At work, we receive some sensitive biological reagents and they are pack with layers of thin foam. I used that, but anything should work there...
It is hard to explain without pictures, but before doing it myself, I saw a MINI tech do it when they replaced the sunroof on my car. You hold the frame with an angle on each side, get above the liner, etc there and push it to "snap". It still moves back and forth and side to side if you pull it, but it is definitely not loose and will not fall by itself.
I hope any of this helps
Good luck.

big thanks guys! got it back in there and it's super SNUG!
when i was messing with it the other night it was dark and hard to fathom but, in the daylight it was easy.
for anyone else with the issue of the loose interior sunroof trim -it's a 5-10 minute fix. i'll try to explain how to fix (i have the perforated roll shades as well but, they should all be the same):
1: if the trim panel is loose and/or floppy ie- you can move it around or side to side freely etc.- gently grab the trim panel at the rear and gently push in towards the front end of the car. then pull down. chances are it will pull right out in your hand. it's not going to break, it's held in by tabs and if it's loose, chances are the tabs have popped out.
2: it won't totally come off because the overhead switch panel with the clock, etc is pretty well secured to the ceiling. what you'll be "holding" is 3/4 of the trim square- the back edge, and the 2 side edges.
3: now look at the inner lip of the trim square. what you'll see are some rectangular tabs. these are the tabs that must be squeezed into the railing to secure the trim panel into place!
4: now look at the tracks on the sunroof. you should see 3 tracks.
from the top track:
the top track is more of a ledge- this is what your sunroof glass slides and rolls across.
the second one down (middle) track is a true track, meaning it has a top and bottom to it. this is where the sunshade snaps in and slides across.
the third track from the top, again looks like a true track (has a top and a bottom to it). THIS is where the trim panel snaps into.
5: starting with the back section, gently angle the tabs on the trim up into that bottom track. once you feel it in there- push the trim square towards the boot. now it should be fairly snug in that section but, loose on the sides.
6: hold onto the back section you JUST popped into place and do one of the side sections the same way.
7: now hold onto the side that you just did and do the other side! it should now be pretty darn SNUG!
8: now look a the front where your clock etc. is. do you see an indention mark in the headliner where the trim panel SHOULD BE? if so hold up the back section again and while holding push up on the front until you feel it pop into place. TIGHT AS A DRUM!
9: now look around the ENTIRE PERIMETER of the trim trim square for any indentions in the headliner. if you see any this just means you're slightly misaligned. no biggie. hold onto a section and push it up to keep it in place as you work you way around the square. pull and then push where you see the indentions and you'll hear the tabs pop into thier spot.
10: stand back and smile. and possibly marvel at the fact that what you once considered a POS plastic BMW trim square, may in fact be an ingenius way to replace a part without having to rip the entire roof apart!
