Hood Scoop flew off!

I just turned onto a side street and was accelerating up to 40... when something flew up and hit the top of the windshield, i was a little startled and glanced in my rear view to see a lightning blue flash behind me... My hood scoop... I pulled over and waited for other cars to pass so i could retrieve it, but then it got ran over twice... I finally rescued it and found it to be scratched to hell.

Upon further inspection it appeared there is only one screw and a bunch of pop ins holding it down, however the part it screws into had snapped off... I haven't modded my scoop, or even touched it so has anyone else had something like this happen? =( taking it to service tomorrow hopefully warranty covers it.

Wow that sucks. What year is your R56? I wonder what caused the screw mount to snap off; I just can't imagine air drag could pull that hard on the scoop.

Wouldn't it have to "function" for it to "malfunction"? Kidding...sorry to hear. Did it scratch any of your car on the way over? I would go to the dealer and explain what happened...they are usually somewhat understanding.

Yea... The car was no scratched *phew*, it hit the rubber as it flew over, I took it into the dealer, as we walked over to the mini i was describing what happened, once we made it to the front the service guy went "...oh... it came OFF..." yea, so they said they would cover it under warranty I was going to wait the week for them to order one, get it painted, but found they had a chrome in stock, i said what the hell, and took it, so now I'm sportin a chrome nose! '07 Mini S.

They said this is the first time ever they have seen this.

Sorry to hear that. But hey at least the dealer actually doing something about it. Now all you need are chrome mirror caps, chrome boot handle and a nice set of chrome wheels to go w/ your new sporting chrome nose. LOL

crazy...someone else had posted in the DCMM forum that their scoop flew off too. I know that I have found mine popped out/up a bit, but we discovered it before it had totally came off.

Bringing this thread up because ours flew off this weekend on the interstate doing about 60mph! Thought it was rare but called the dealer and they are ordering a new one under warantee. everyone go out and check your hood scoop to make sure there is NO play in it. luckily it didn't cause any damage to the roof but we did lose the scoop. :(
