3 CV Joints in a Month: Larger Issues??
I have a 2005 MCS with only 26K that's been nothing but a problem dog I shall name "Rover." In the last month, the dealer has replaced two defective driver side CV joints--and the last one installed, after only a couple hundred miles, is starting to make the same clunking grinding noise under right turns as the other two did before they went south. There are no issues with the passenger side CVJ.
Ive not called the dealer yet, but Im wondering if there are larger issues here--tweaked subframe, transmission, motor mounts, etc etc.?? I have a hard time beleiving it's a batch of defective parts here, and the dealer wont slice open the CVJ bellows to see if they are even lubricated, for fear that BMW will kick back the warranty claim and Ill be stuck with a $710 repair bill
I might add that the same dealer back in feb replaced the dual mass flywheel and clutch and master cylinder under warranty, and I know that's a major sub-frame drop job, and 4-wheel aligned the car (my $$) a month later.
any and all theories and ideas are welcome here, so I can present them to the dealer as possibilities. thanks in advance 'quence

prob is the closest other dealer, unlike being in CA or back east, is 400 miles away from me and the car is way out of time re CO lemon laws. I just have a feeling that the third time will involve powers much higher than the dealer, that the problem will go to a regional service rep or even MINI USA. I also doubt it's a tweaked subframe, because the car tracks as true as new, aligned perfectly, and there's no abnormal tire wear.
Also, there were no CVJ problems until after the DM flywheel and clutch were replaced in Feb, so Im thinking....

i'd suggest keeping your faith in the dealer as long as this is warranty work...
they've lots of reasons to get it right, and if you offer them patience it might set the stage for a good relationship going forwards
i would suspect the service manager is asking himself/herself the same questions you raise and for the same reasons
i appreciate that this is a hugely improbable series of mishaps, and a monstrous PITA, but i'd still hang in there
if they cannot make it right, you'll be on firm ground to pick an option from there...
very sorry for the misery you seem to be the victim through no choice of your own!
cheers,
charlie
