In a Bind - Lost a Screw

Apparently I'm accident prone. I was replacing the air filter today. I removed the intercooler cover for easier access. Unfortunately, I lost a screw down in front of the engine. I've looked on the ground, and I've checked the skid plate with no luck. Any other ideas where the thing could have gone? I'm afraid to start the MINI, since it could be in the way of a moving part. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW...it's the small screw on the front drivers side of the intercooler cover. Thank you.

Seth

Ace hardware has all kinds of metric screws, if another one can be used as a match. At Ace, put a nut on the one you bring to size it. then put the nut on the one you buy to verify same thread size. they have stainless, chrome- etc

I've lost one of those too. I never did find it. The car made no extra sounds when I started it up. Got new ones at Ace as well.

Before you start the car after loosing a bolt down in there, spin the fans by hand to see if they move ok, if they do, go ahead and start the car. Odds are good the bolt is on top of the plastic intake track from the throttle body to the s/c. It won't hurt anything to rest there for awhile.

Super. Sometimes the screw falls to the bottom of the radiator. Where the fan shroud lives. It wont hurt anything. One scre missing is ok. Was it the long one or the short one. The one closes to the raditor or close to hte valve cover.?

Thanks for the help. It's one of the short short ones Guido. I'll spend some more time looking for it today. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Found it! I put the car up on ramps and it was pretty easy to find after that.
