Wind shield wiper noise

I have a 2008 Clubman S with 4,000 miles on it. It seems to me the driver side blade is very noisey when reaching the left arc and then reversing back to center. I don't hear the passenger making that stop go back noise.

I have tried Rain-X but no change. It just seems the wiper should not make that old fashion wiper noise.

Am I crazy or hearing things or what? I have ordered some silblades with a hope of improvement.

I do get quite a bit of windshield wiper chatter. Not sure if that is what you are describing. Wipers do not seem to work well. Am aalso thinking about better wipers.

Before all else clean the windshield until there is no film left. RainX leaves a film which can in some conditions and some wipers worsen the situation.

Every time I get a new car I clay the windshield and clean the wipers with a strong ammonia solution. After that I use newspaper and mild ammonia solution for periodic cleanings and my Valeo wipers do not gum up or make noises.

It's a 2008 and presumably on warranty, have you tried asking the dealership to look at it?

I went back to the dealer. They replaced it with the same crappy wipers. Unfortunately it did not help and it went back to chattering in about one month.

Car is mostly left outside which can kill off the wipers quickly. I will try Ian's suggestions to see if it is better.

I purchase a pair of rigid wipers by Rain-X and that fixed the problem. The ones with tension arms seem to be a little too loose and therefore, go flip flop. I tried a high end tension model and it was noisy, too.

The single arm rigid wiper is not too good looking, but it does do the job and with no noise.

I found that Rain X caused my wipers to chatter. Took along time to scrub the residual Rain X off. It is amazing stuff though.

+1 on keeping the windshield as clean as possible. I use Invisible Glass aerosol cleaner, which I find works much better than Windex or most other glass cleaner products. My Clubman is 6 months old, and my wipers work fine.

take rubbing alcohol on a paper towel and clean the blade with a few swipes. after that, take some spray silicon and lightly coat both sides keeping the can at least 1ft away. it has worked for me since I've owned my car and never made a noise.
