Abs randomly engaging

The ABS system is randomly engaging. This is under extremely lights braking, medium braking and heavy breaking. This happens every time I drive the car. When this happens a few times the ABS/Traction control light/and flat tire light will come on. I’m not sure why this is happening but it seems that it could become very dangerous.

Probably a sensor gone crazy - mine did that once and it was some sensor that needed to be replaced. Now everything is fine.

The system thinks that there is an impending wheel lock on one or more of the wheels. There is a tone wheel located on the axles that excites a magnetic sensor located in close proximity of the tone wheel.

If the sensor is loose, the signal will drop out from time to time making the ABS computer think the wheel has stopped. A dirty (accumulation of magnetic dust) or damaged tone wheel, poor connection in the sensor wire or defective sensor will also cause the same symptom.

Note that the vehicle speed is derived from the right rear ABS sensor; so if the speedo is not acting erratic while driving, then the problem is not in that wheel; only three more to go.

Hope this helps and good luck!
