oil change / Inspection I & II confusion

Hi everyone !

I'm confused about the maintenance of my car.

I own a MCS 2004. The car doesn't go out during winter.
I do change the engine oil every spring.

But now I'm out of warranty and I bought the Bentley guide. I'll do the maintenance by myself, because I have a very crapy Mini dealer.

When I bought the car, the first oil change was at 10000 miles.
Then I had the 25000 miles inspection done (I guess it's the Inspection I ?)

Since, every spring the oil change was done without resetting the oil change / inspection meter.

Now, the car as 35000 miles on it.

The oil change / inspection meter is telling me the next service is in 5500 miles. but what needs to be done? Inspection II? Oil change?

What is exactly done on inspection I and inspection II ?

Thanks !

Martin

Nothing needs to be done right now...You have 5500 miles to go. The only service to ever be at or around 10k miles is the first one. Every service after that starts at 15525 and counts down, the rate of the count down can increase or decrease depending on the way you drive. Drive hard, it counts faster. Drive easy, it increases. Your next service will be only an oil change and based off of the history of your personal intervals, the service after that(which would be an Insp. II) would be at around 55k miles.

Am I understanding well?

So. Correct me if I'm wrong.

10000miles - Had the first oil change
25000miles - Had the inspection I
about 40000miles - I'll have an oil change
about 55000miles - I'll have inspection II
and so on: oil change, inspection I, oil change, inspection II

Can you tell me what needs to be done on inspection I & II ?

Maintenance

Ok, I think I found the information.

So I was right. The oil changes and inspections does like this:

1. 10K - Oil Service
2. 25K - Inspection 1 Service
3. 40K - Oil Service
4. 55K - Inspection 2 Service
5. 70K - Oil Service
Repeat 2 through 5 at 15K intervals

MINI Inspection I:
Undercarriage
Change oil and oil filter while engine is at operating temperature.
We recommend MINI Synthetic Motor Oil, p/n 07 51 0 143 829
Check transmission for leaks.
Change CVT (automatic) transmission fluid.
Half shafts: Check for leaks at flexible boots.
Visually check fuel tank, lines and connections for leaks.
Check condition, position, and mounting of exhaust system. Examine for leaks.
Check power steering system for leaks. Check p/s fluid level; add fluid if necessary.
Check overall thickness of front and rear disc brake pads (outer pads only) using special tool.
If replacement is necessary:
Examine brake disc surfaces. clean brake pad contact points in calipers. Grease wheel centering hubs.
Check thickness of parking brake linings only when replacing rear pads.
Check steering for absence of play, condition of suspension track rods, front axle joints, steering linkage and joint disc.
Check brake system connections and lines for leaks, damage, and incorrect positioning.
Check parking brake actuation. Adjust if necessary.
Check all tire pressures (including spare). Correct if necessary. Check condition of tires (outer surfaces [left/right]), tread wear and pattern; in case of uneven tread wear readjust wheel alignment if requested.*
Note:If requested rotate all four road wheels as instructed and rebalance.*
Inspect entire body according to terms of rust perforation limited warranty (must be performed at least every two years).

Engine Compartment

Check engine cooling system/heater hose connections for leaks. Check coolant level and antifreeze protection level; add coolant if necessary.
Note:Coolant must be replaced every 4 years (time interval begins from vehicle's production date).
Check level of brake fluid in reservoir. Add fluid if required.
Replace brake fluid every 2 years (timing interval begins from vehicle's production date).*
Check windshield washer fluid level and antifreeze protection. Fill up and/or correct if necessary.
Check air conditioner operation.
Replace microfilter.
Note: reduce replacement interval in dusty operating conditions.
Reset Service Interval Indicator.

Body/Electrical Equipment
Check battery state-of-charge, and charge if required.*
Check lighting system, i.e., headlights, foglights, parking, back-up, license plate, interior, glove box, illuminated make-up mirrors, luggage area lights.
Check instrument panel and dashboard illumination.
Check all warning/indicator lights, check control.
Check turn signals, hazard warning flashers, brake lights, horns, headlight dimmer/flasher switch.

Spark plug change is at 100000milles
Oxygen sensor change is at 100000milles
Break oil change every 2 years
Coolant change every 4 years
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Now my question is: when do we change the oil for the manual transmission and the fuel filter?

None scheduled, it supposed to be lifetime fill, but you might schedule paying extra for it, a lifetime is a long time.

Okay, you didn't hear this from me, but...it's in the owner's manual.

By the way, I've now had 2 independent shops tell me to change the oil more often than the oil countdown says. I've been changing it once a year, which still is well before the countdown gets anywhere near 0, but they both suggested twice a year which is around every 7,500 miles.
