Brake Replacement 9 months after replacing?

We had our front brakes replaced by a mini dealership in early January this year - they replaced the pads and the rotors and also flushed the brake fluid.

So, I took the car in because I think we need to do the back ones done.. and the local mechanic tells me I need to have the front discs, pads and rotors replaced again.

Thoughts? Is this normal? I can't really tell how many miles I should expect out of my brakes.

Depends on your driving style and conditions. If you drive up and down hills, or in the canyons, or in a lot of traffic you brake life expectancy will be shorter.

I work from home, so we rarely drive the car. I think we put maybe 4000 miles on since January. It's suburban Cary, NC driving - so not much traffic or hills.

Something isn't right. I use (abuse) my brakes hard, and get 20-30k miles from a set of pads/rotors.

I agree... I just spoke to the mechanic again and they are saying it looks like the rotors were never replaced in January (there is significant wear and they are saying there is no way that could have happen in the miles we've driven), and the pads are glazed. Says it looks like the dealer put on cheap pads. :(

I drive mine as hard as anyone and have almost 70K miles on the original brakes and will need new rotors before pads, I guess being a retired trucker and not using brakes but downshifting has helped alot. Sounds like dealership needs some molah to me.

Not surprisingly, this is not the first time that the dealer has said they've done work that was not done. :( The local place has really treated us well.

something smells fishy. I encourage you to take a drive over to NAM vendor http://www.grassrootsgarage.com/ and have them look at it.
