Service light - State required emissions inspection

My six month old 2008 MCS with 6,000 miles has the service light come on when I start it. I went to the setup and it tells me that I need a state required emissions inspection. What? Why does it think I need an emissions inspection? Any way to reset this without going to the dealer? Is this different from the check engine light?

Thanks

It is different from a CEL.There's a light on the speedo for that.
