Boost down 6 PSI since dealer repairs

Hey everyone,

a few weeks ago, i took my 2007 Cooper S in to have the alarm repaired and they ended up needed to reset the ECU, and ever since i picked it up my boost pressure dropped from 17 max (with overboost) to 11 Psi max with overboost. Was there a mistake made at the dealer in the ECU or is this some special winter program mix or something? I have noticed reduced performance as a result (obviously ), Should i the dealer up?

They probably flashed with the latest software which does seem to limit boost.

Do you have any mods?

I have the Alta turbo inlet hose but i really wouldnt call that a mod.

So other people have the same ECU flash? And the results are similar to mine?

I'm not sure about on stock cars, but 07 cars using the unichip suffer lower boost after the latest flash. 08+ cars already have the boost limiting flash.

i'm thinkin i need to get this reflash cuz lately mine has acted weird, like trying to stall when stopping quickly or sometimes it will just die completely when braking hard after I go to neutral coming to a stop like i shut off the ignition...weird cuz it'll do it kinda randomly.

I talked to a dealer technician today, and he said that the ECU reflash should not lower boost. Then again, he also said that he doesnt know what the new ECU reflashes do. I told him about my car and he said that he would look into seeing if there was anything wrong.

Did you get any answer on RPM at stop.
My O9 JCW goes to low (400 to 500) then high (1000 to 1200) then to Idle.
This happens more the harder the stop- or faster the stop.
At first i thought this could be SMOG management?
This is not that bad, and car runs good, but is not right.

Performance reduction after reflash

I had my car reflashed to activate rear fogs and have noticed a reduction in performance also. When I took the car (build Oct 07) in and they said they had to reflash the ECU I asked if the new program would change performance. They said it would, but they could only activate the fogs with a reflash. Have to have rear fogs in England so I had to accept the loss.

So this only affects 2007 models? I have an '08 and I'm worried that if I ever need a reflash I'll get reduced performance.

you already have the "reduced performance". Or more better way - you missed out on the 07 extra boost which most 07s will lose as they get reflashed.

I've had the unfortunate surprise to find the same reduced performance on my 08 MCSa (built January 2008) after repairs for a transmission problem about a month ago (the car had less than 2000 km on the counter). The repair sheet showed the ECU was reprogrammed with "ISTA/P 32.2"

How are you all measuring your boost? I regularly see 17 to 20 psi boost on my scangage II in my 09 MCS if I drive it hard. 11 is easily reached on normal commute driving.

Are you sure the scangauge is displaying boost ? in this thread it seems that out of the box, the scangauge is displaying MAP (manifold absolute pressure) to which you have to deduct the atmospheric pressure at your altitude to obtain the real boost from the turbo.

you may be onto someting - stock S doesn't really go over 15lbs. jcw can hit 19.

You have to subtract 14.7 psig for atmosphere pressure at sea level from your scangauge readings. Scangauge only reports total boost and is not instantaneous (sampling) so you need to do it often to get idea of the "peak". I think overboost stops over 4500 rpm.

My stage 1 JCW highest boost on scangauge is 29.5 psig which equates to 14.8 psig at sea level.

Why do the 07's have more boost than the newer ones? How do I prevent getting that update that limits the boost?
