Leaking air thru rim

I find this a bit strange that after 35,000 miles my rim is leaking from the center of the casting. Has any one heard of this, the rims are 17" S-Lites.

I have included a few photos, looking forward to hearing feedback of what you all think

Thanks Don

Well, castings are by there nature pretty porous, so it is possible that any air in the casting lined up in just the right way that a path was created from the inside to the outside. This would be the first time I have seen it though.

Smear some epoxy on that spot and call it good.

Fine, JB weld....sissy.

Seriously though, that sounds like a material defect and I would expect Mini to cover that as a safety concern....Mini might think otherwise though. If it were actually cracked, they might call that customer abuse.

You have a warranty claim. Take it back and let them supply you a brand new rim.

Warranty issue is in the works. Round one was a firm no. So we will see what happens.

1st time heard of MINI Lites leaking, other wheels yes, it happens. As said before castings are porous that's why they are painted with an epoxy based paint on the inside.
This is a manufacturing defect that the dealer needs to man up to and replace the leaking wheel, that is, if it hasn't been accidentally damaged.

Yeah, that should be covered, it is not a result of a road hazard.

Well good news for me, the wheel will be replaced under warranty. Now does any one have any tips to make a fresh white rim look like one thats been used for 35k.
