Rear suspension noise and loose, sloppy steering?

My latest MINI-ailment, presented in pseudo-medical fashion:

Subjective: Patient presents with "rubbery squeaking" from rear end, seemingly related to rear suspension movement. Steering feel and vehicle dynamics have changed noticeably in association with the squeaking.

Objective: '05 MCS, 42k, 22mm RSB, stock springs / struts. Driving impressions - Steering feel is loose and sloppy. Vehicle lacks characteristic MINI turn-in sharpness and exhibits noticeable dead-zone in steering range. Overall dynamic feel is soft and disconnected front-to-rear, with noticeable delay in rear-end response to directional input. Distinct squeaking from rear suspension upon movement. On physical exam, all major rear suspension components appear normal and have no abnormal movement or laxity.

Assessment: Suspect worn rear suspension bushing / bushings.

Plan: Will poll MINI community for opinions to determine if issue can be resolved in house, or refer to specialist.

I will be interested in this response too. My '04 MCS with 80K just underwent replacement of the front lower control arm bushings, and although it improved the situation it did not return the car to that 'new car feel.'

I would inspect the sway bar bushings, also check the upper strut mounts in the rear to see if they are mushroomed(look through the bottom).
