Need assistance
Hey guyz, I need some assistance and guidance.
Last two weeks, my car very hard to start and it crank a lot of times then only can start my car. Once it started, the traction control sign just appear permanently. I switch off and switch it on immediately, it start easily but the sign still there. However, if I switch off my car and leave it for 5 minutes then it get very hard to start.
I sent my car to mechanic, he told me that the camshaft sensor not working. So he replaced the camshaft sensor but the problem still there.
Just would like to know have anyone encountered this problem before? my car has been in my mechanic work shop for almost 3 weeks.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

the CAN is the powertrain bus system. It is actually called the PT-CAN. A bus system is a group of modules or computers that talk on a select network. think of it as an office building. It has its own network in it but still capable of dialing out. the CAN system is designed for speed. if you have less computers trying to talk over a certain set of wires then you have a better chance of the information getting through with better speeds.
I believe that you may have 2 separate issues. If your CAN bus was down, you would have ABS,DSC,Check engine, and every other light on, not just the dsc light. Dont take my word for it, if you dont believe me, turn the car off and use a multimeter to check resistance of the yellow twisted pair of wires ( PT-CAN ) coming out of the DME or you can test them at the DSC too. the resistance should be 120 Ohms or 60 Ohms depending on where its tested.
If you want my opinion, you have a DSC fault ( like a wheel speed sensor or something and you have a fuel related problem ( like poor gas quality or carbon buildup on the valves ).
please let us know how it turns out, but i would recommend staying away from the "mechanic" seeing as he does such a great job...not

90% of the time it's the left front wheel speed sensor that goes bad, but you should have someone look at the car that actually knows what they are talking about, if he sees faults for the CAN bus, they are probably erroneous, and obviously knows nothing about these cars.
But how did this go from a poor running issue to a DSC light?

id say fairly common. the problem is that not all independant shops have the means/training to diagnose and repair these cars. Im sure ill get bashed here but the dealer has consistently higher quality work and usually can repair a problem within a few days at most as opposed to most indy shops.
*disclaimer*****this is just my opinion, for the masses that feel the dealerships are "stealers" thats your opinion.

I guess I need to send the car to BMW dealer. Any ideas how much will it costs to replace either one of that? As my car warranty is over.
