Anybody's MCS getting louder with age? Mine sounds like a diesel truck while driving!

im not sure whats going on with my 2007 MCS with 30,000 miles. the car sounds fine when cold, but after 5-10 minutes of driving at 2500 RPMs the engine sounds LOUD!!!!! like im running it with no oil!! sounds like a diesel truck reving its engine! its so loud people are asking what the noise is. i cant even have a phone conversation with the windows closed. i took it to the dealer and he said turbos get louder with age, but this is insane, it even gotten louder since then! i cant imagine the general public would be ok with this noise. and it doesnt sound like a cool engine noise, its a loud grating metalic engine noise. im just waiting for an engine meltdown, yeah, it sounds that bad! my car has fine power, oil level fine and gas mileage perfect. anybody else have this issue or guess what the heck is going on? thanks in advance.

Only 5,000 on mine so far, start ups are a little louder but quickly go back to "normal".

why are r53'ers in r56 forum talking bad about are cars!!

mine has the diesel sound but not very loud, got oil change and the sound was a little less.

today it acted up and made a very loud noise and was unstable on rpms for like 5 mins, the i just gave it a few revs and it went away.

You need to pursue this with the MINI dealer. Get them to put it in writing that the car is absolutely fine and it has no problems. I bet you they won't put that in writing. If they do then keep that letter on file so when it stops running they will be on the hook.

ive had that sound a couple of mornings..its odd.. Just hit or miss, as itll do it in 30 degree mornings, as well as 60. It goes away at idle after I let it run a sec then usually dissappears by the time im outta my neighborhood

I had one to, in fact I had 2 R53s. I would still take the R56 noise and all over both of them. I think this is called hijacking a thread, I would read the rules again

can you describe more? when was you car built? how often do you change your oil? manual or auto? mine started after a couple -20 degree days, where do you live? what does your noise sound like? when did it start?

again this morning, my car drove and sounded perfect, but 10 minutes into the commute its like a switch is flipped and it just starts making a diesel buzzy sound around 2500 RPMs. i floored it several times up to 6000 RPMs, pulled really strong, but the noise was still there.

if it gets any worse, im going to have an impossible time selling this car when i need to, anybody thats takes a test drive is going to be like "what the!"

Well, mines definitely louder and has more pops and burbles than the day I drove it off the lot (~2700 miles ago), but definitely not a "diesel" sound. I'd take it in ORRRR buy an Alta catback .

When you trade it in they don't look at the maintenance records on your car, they just ask if anythings wrong with it and if it was fixed then the answer is no...

If the same dealer that you're going to buy a car from later tries to gyp you on your Mini they maintained, I wouldn't buy a car from them.

I had the same problem with my MCS, built January 2007...dealer and MINI USA spent a year telling me that there was no problem, and it was a normal noise. I took it in for inspection the end of March 2009, and asked them to look at it again. This time they said they had to replace the timing chain assembly (again) to fix the noise...they said that the tensioner has been redesigned THREE TIMES since I had it in a year ago for this issue. Got my car back on 4/15/09, no noise, car runs like it should have from new, better than it ever has. However, I don't know what happened while it was at the dealer, but a week later the car caught fire and burned while it was parked! No one was near the car at the time, the investigators are looking into it.

I just sent my 07, "S" off to the dealer on the back of a truck. Everything was fine with it , no rattles, cold star issues or nothin till yesterday. Suddenly I have a horrible timing chain rattle at anything below 1700 rpm. I called roadside assist and the car was picked up in less than an hour. The service advisor returned my call within 30 minutes and told me the warranty would cover the issue. He is going to call me back today after they look into it.
