i have a bit of an odd problem...my passenger side door for some reason does not want to respond to the inside toggle to unlock nor will it respond to the keyfob...but i can pull the inside handle and it opens just fine....any ideas?

 

I have exactly the same problem. Mine will lock (but not unlock) with the key fob if everyone is out of the car, but does nothing with the inside toggle or if I drive faster than the automatic set speed. I can hear the mechanism clicking if I listen by the outside handle.

Other posts have indicated that the lock linkage may have come apart. Another possibility is that the lock mechansim has failed. Both require removal of the inner door panel to troubleshoot and service. I have not taken the time to look at it yet, but I'm betting its a failed mechanism (Murphy's Law, i.e. more expensive and more difficult to fix.)

 

I just recently had the mechanism replaced on the passenger side on my 03 MCS. I was having the same issue - lock not unlocking with keyfob or toggle switch. It was intermittent at first but eventually it just stopped. At first it wasn't too bad having to open it with the handle but then was too much to deal with. Had it replaced for roughly $300 parts and labour by Mini.

 

You can order the part from morristown mini for about $100. Just email the parts dept and tell them you need a new door locking mechanism. Install is smooth if you're comfortable with tools.

 

its broken. my drivers door does the same thing, and has since about 2 months after i bought it
