Tranny Question.....

My transmission in my 2002 MINI failed and was replaced under extended warranty. It was replaced with a "RMFD-FIVE SPEED (OVERDRIVE) : 230519".

Can anyone tell me if this tranny would be a rebuilt version of the original or is it a better model? My understanding are that the trannys are better '05 - on.

It is more than likely a rebuilt (RMFD) 5 speed tranny. The newer 6 speeds are a better unit.

Hi, My 2003 5 speed trans threw some parts while going down the road in the rain at 65 MPH.
The trans started making some noise. By the time I drove to a safe spot to pull over and check it, the damage was done. It's dead. It's still driveable, but it's done for.
Now, my question is, can I replace the 5 speed with a 6 speed transmission?

The old 5 speeds are junk, I don't want to replace it with another junky transmission.

Yes, see the Modifications section for Cooper Non-S. There is a couple of pages of info for this.
