Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S(R56), and Cabrio (R57).
yeah this topics been discussed in a few threads a million times
its plastic, it sits on top of the turbo, it melts...get a turbo wrap/upgrade to cf/or remove the black plastic grill inside the scoop.
'09 with 4100 miles, 6 months old. No warpage. Yes I said warpage. Have yet to see a picture of any MCS scoop actually "melted". Lots of pictures of them warped. If anyone actually has one that "melted" I would love to see a picture. I have done nothing to mine, no wrapping, no heat shields, no removing or dremeling the grill in the scoop. Not saying it won't happen to me, just hasn't yet (and hoping it doesn't).
I got 1600 miles and check every day for "melting" and so far so good. I got a march build car and my scoop has some of the grill cut out but not all of them. I can feel the heat comming out when I turn the car off. If you cut more out won't the scoop be weaker and more likely to warp? Also I can see the dealer saying they will not replace if more are cut out since the scoop has been altered.
If you've removed some of your grill, than you know how strong that plastic is some strong stuff. I cut out all of mine, and I can't imagine the structure is any weaker. I also don't believe the grill provides any support to the scoop opening.

Mini came with some of the slots removed I guess it's from the factory but the dealer or VPC could have done it. Are they normally totaly closed when you get the car?
I guess only time will tell if we are going to get the "melted scoop" good news it that I have only seen one car with a melted scoop in real life just hope mine is not #2.
My '09 Cooper S Clubman with 6400 miles started to warp in middle. Not real bad, but noticeable to me. Got A JCW Carbon Fiber to replace it. Love the look against my Pepper White Bonnet..

Can you post a pic?????
I've got a PW Clubby. I'd like to see how it looks.
WFIW I talked to my SA advisor about the "Melting Issue" He said MINI has had 3 revisions of the scoop with change in plastics and the addtion of the holes in part of the grill. He has not see any of the updated scoops come back for replacmet but they have not been around for that long. He said one time replacement from MINI. As to cutting the extra parts out "any mods could affect warranty". I can't see anything on my car but if I run my hand along the gap I think I can feel a little dip but it could have been that way from day 1 since I did not feel it till now.
