Replacing Rear Lights, OEM Retrofit Kit

I have a 2003 Mini Cooper and my brake light went out. Finding the replacement bulb has been very difficult. I do not live close to a Mini dealership so I took some pictures to email the parts guy. He told me that these lights were an option that the original owner got a "Retrofit kit" and I need to get the whole Bulb Carrier for $57.00 ("Marked down from $93). I have a clear lens, so the light changes colors depending on what I am doing (brakes, signal, etc.) My question is... are there other options, and is there a better price? I don't want to believe that the dealer is my ONLY choice for parts, but no one else was able to tell me anything!
In the pictures you can see where we broke the soldering to see if the bulb our local parts store offered would fit... it didn't.

I have a pair of these too and the brake light is now not working. I have no issues soldering but can not for the life of me find an exact matching bulb. I would also like to have the part number for the full replacement from the dealership if anyone has it. Thanks

I had to send a picture to the dealer and they told me it was an option the original owner got, so they ordered it for me and I paid $57 (a so called discounted price). It is the whole unit, you can't get just the bulbs. I kept the old unit so I could use those good bulbs if I needed to. I hope this helps.
