Fog light repair

So as I was washing MiniMe yesterday I noticed that I had taken a direct rock hit to the front fog light. After looking, I thought that I didn't possess the ability to replace it myself so I called the dealer. they are really resonably priced.....NOT!!!! They told me $220 to replace it as the have to take the front bumper off to get at it. Arghhh.

If anyone has experienced this is that correct?

Thanks

Yes, front bumper needs to be taken off, but it is trivial. I can take my front bumper off AND reinstall it in 10-15 minutes. The fog light is also a simple bolt on. Ask them for the breakdown of the job in parts and labor.

I had the drivers side fog lamp completely broken out by a rock...found a new OEM replacement on eBay for around 40.00. Took all of 20 minutes to replace. Now I have impact resistant covers on all the lights.

According to the installation instructions they have you remove the wheel well liners, not the bumper, to access the foglights.

I have an '08 clubman with the same problem. Drivers side fog/parking lamp broken. Mine is the parking lamp version, not a fog lamp. Are these lights all the same and just a different bulb? I'm trying to determine what to buy to replace it and what the part is called. It's the standard light that comes with the car, not an upgraded driving/fog light. I don't want to pay $100 in labor plus drive time to get this fixed.

Any advice on what part you bought, if you have done this would help. Plus getting somce type of cover to prevent breaking in the future.

Thanks for any info.

There are two lights in mine. One that contains the parking light and turn signal and the other is that actual fog light and it is physically located at the bottom of the bumper lower than the parking light turn signal light. I believe that the one that you are talking about is accesible from the top, just open the bonnet. At least it is from mine. I don't know the part # however.

I have a similar issue only someone managed to hit my Mini R53 MCS and break that second bumper reinforcement. I can't locate this part anywhere online. Literally my fog lamp was rolling around in the bumper area. The fog light works, and it's housing is fine, but the plastic it mounts into is broken. So it's not the fog light itself that needs replacing, but that whole braket that both lights are mounted into. I made a temporary braket from a sheet of tin. I just wanted to know if there are any places I can get body parts for Cooper's other than the dealership. I don't need them to replace this part, and I really don't want to pay the dealership price for such a large part.
