My MINI is mad. Electrical problem.

Hi everyone! I am new to posting so I am looking for some help. I love my mini. He is red and his name is Simon. The other day he wouldn't start. I got a new battery after trying to jump the old battery. Simon fired up like a champ, but he had some problems. Windows going up and down, wipers working by themselves. All the lights on the dash light up. Fuse blew on power windows.

The dealership wants $6,000 to replace all the electrical parts. (PCM, CVT, etc.) I love my car so I want to keep him.

This is the first problem he had every experienced and he is a 2005!!!

Anyone else had any problems? Warranty is expired so no relief there.

Thanks.

Water Damage

I experienced similar problems with my Mini. I'll bet that your car leaks and if you look under the carpet you will see a small lake. The moron who designed the electrical system put all the wires down there and they get wet when the car leaks around the door gasket, through the firewall and around the windshield. These cars leak like a sieve.

Get a second opinion... Maybe someone could reccommend a good independant if you post where you lived.

What did you do about your water problem? I don't want to get it fixed and have it happen again. If.....I get it fixed. Driving around in anything but my car just isn't sitting well with me. Mini's have their own personalities. They aren't like other cars.....

Is there any way to get the body codes reset...anybody with a V.A.G. Diagnostic Scan Tool can do it. The electrical problem could be from the jump start. If that does not work, recheck your grounds at the battery. A bad ground can also cause erratic electrical problems. Hope this helps, as I did not see any written indication in your post about water. (Water can cause this, but the connectors are supposedly waterproof).
