Hi all-

My 2005 MCC has a weird knocking sound that isn't constant, but only occurs when I turn. It does it both left and right turns.

Please tell me this isn't going to be expensive, I originally joined this forum because my steering went out.............I've printed a lot of notes from this forum and buying a Haynes guide to replace the pump this weekend.

Could be the half shafts...they aren't that expensive. If it gets louder when you accelerate through a turn (rather than coasting) it is more than likely half shafts, or at least CV joint end of the half shaft (the cage is probably cracked).

 

it's more like a creak, possibly a bushing? it only happens at low speeds

 

I had a knocking noise as well, I took it in to my local tire center because I live about 5 hours away from my Mini dealer, turns out the bolts that hold my control arm in was loose, it made a knocking noise, and I could only hear it when I was going slow, turning a corner, or going over a bumb. Hope this helps! Oh, it was a very easy and cheap fix!
