Oil housing cap cracked

[SIZE=2]Hello,
My name is Sam. I recently purchased a 05 Mini with 30,000 miles and a auto transmission. I went to change the oil and noticed the cap to the oil housing was cracked (The cast nut). I managed to get the cap off and it does not look like it has much life left to it. Unforchanitly I had to put it back on because this is my ony transportation. My question is do they make a housing that I can bolt onto this motor that will accept a normal type of filter or will I need to get a new cap? Any help on this would be great. Anyone know where I can get these parts? Thanks, Sam

When you say "oil housing" I assume you mean the can-type thing that contains the oil filter? If so, then I've not seen anything that would convert the engine to a spin-on filter. Besides, any sort of conversion kit would be a lot more expensive to buy and install than purchasing a new oil filter housing.

Too much torque I'd bet

Sam, your post is confusing. "cap to the oil housing was cracked (The cast nut)"...are you talking about the cap on the oil filter? IF so, it's plastic, and it takes a very low torque setting when tightening. Someone obviously over torqued it. You just have to buy a new one and replace the busted one, and you're all set. Check around on the forum for detailed oil change instructions, and stick with that very low torque setting.

Hi, thanks for your reply. That is the part but mine is definitely cast aluminum. Do you know where I can get one? Thanks again, Sam

Hey is right. This is 1st gen surf blue. Who moved who. Dumb. Sam what happened
is if you don't change a oil filter for a long time. The Canister Cap just freezes
up. Trust me. Cert Mini Tech here. I would have to use a big breaker bar
with the 36mm socket. I swear one time. I broke a 1/2 inch break bar.
Ok so you did get it off cool. You can go to dealer get that portion you need
just make sure dont cross thread when you install new cap.. Apply white lithium grease to new seal.
