What's your MCS idle? (M6)

I didn't want to poop up the cold start thread with 5000 new entries so I started a new thread

So what is your MCS idle RPM? (M6)

Since having my timing chain service per the cold start chatter my car is not idling to my liking... I need some data on where it SHOULD be...

Thanks for your help

When you say "not to your liking"

do you mean RPM or fluctuations? There's a spec on the warm idle RPM. My wife has a base clubbie, so I don't know what the S is off the top of my head... I'd guess around 750 or so....

Sorry - I should add some more information...

Once the car has warmed up it seems like when I am idling at a stoplight/stop sign that the car is struggling to idle... a raising and lowering along with a pulsing feeling (you can physically feel it in the car) along with a possible backfire

Just one more thing....

It might be learning itself...

or it's time for a trip back.... Record what you hear incase it's happy when you go back, so they know what you're talking about. A cell phone vid of the tach bouncing with the sound should be good enough. IT's possible they didn't reset the adaptation values and there's a shift in the car that it will learn, or it could be something more. They have to take a lot off to do the parts swap and maybe something didn't go back on quite right.

If you check out the cold start thread... on the way home from the 'DR' after the timing chain visit the car started idling WILDLY 500-1500 RPM swings and ended up being flatbedded back in for 'loose vacuum hose'

I don't feel as thuogh everything is back to normal so I am trying to find more info...

I concur, about 800 RPM; and the engine automatically compensates for the drag of the automatic transmission, so it's 800 for both in drive and in neutral.

Since the moment I drove the car off the lot (in October), I noticed random idle swings from 500 to 1000. It only lasts a couple of seconds and then it is fine. I also experience very abrupt shifting from second to first. It actually lunges into first sometimes. I took it in but of course the technicians found nothing... They could feel what I am talking about but have no explanation, therefore it is not fixed. Has anyone else experienced the downshifting problem coupled with crazy idle?

the two times my car cold start BANGED last winter the idle was steady at 900 rpm, did not vary at all. Currently idles about that level, give or take +/- 100 rpm.

if your idle is varying wildly I would say perhaps it's the HPFP starting to go south. Looks like a bad batch of those puppies made it out of BMW's third world contractor and into a bunch of MINIs and BMWs.
