Add one more to the HPFP issue- Our 2012 Countryman S All4 (original owner since 3/31/2012) started stuttering at cold start and the engine symbol light came on and has stayed on. Dropped it off at MINI of Portland, OR and the service writer called to tell me that they initially think it is the HPFP but will know more tomorrow. I was sent home with a loaner (nice 2016 Cooper 2-door in bright red) and told to enjoy the ride till mine was fixed.
I have had nothing but wonderful service from MINI of Portland, everyone there really make you feel like you are their most important customer. Thank You!

I can not say enough good things about that dealership.

Alright I've gotta ask now that I've seen some newer cars having issues. I've got a 2012 fJCW Coupe with the N14 motor. My understanding was the extended warranty on the HPFP was only for 07-09 cars out to 10 years and/or 120k miles. Is that the case, or is MINI covering it for all cars out to 100k miles now? I've seen a few 2011s and 2013s with the N18 that should be out of factory warranty stating they've gotten it covered by MINI.

i think its for early N18 motors up to late 2012 production that also got the 10yr/120k on the fuel pump. for all of the other niche late n14 jcws it would probably be best to call miniusa or local dealer and give them youre vin to see if youre covered.
they're also going to want to see stored fault code, cold start low psi issues, etc to warranty.

well they had a list and they themselves told me yeah your car is covered as long as you have the original one from mini installed.

Damn that sucks I had mine replace under warranty a few months ago in New York I have a 2012 mcs

There's several issues I've noted that could be problems for us with '11 and '12 JCWs since we still have the N14. I've been trying to wage a quiet war with MINI over why we aren't covered on the HPFP warranty extension and the timing chain service campaign. Their argument is we received the updated parts already, except there's documented cases of the same issues still arising.

2012 MINI Cooper S Clubman, N18, Build Date 10/2011
37K Miles - Purchased Feb '12
5/25/15
CEL occurs when accelerating
Replaced High-Pressure Pump 13-51-7-592-429
Fault Code: 2EE0-2EE2-2EED-2EF0-2EF7-2EFE-2F02
and D1350-00000000-02-002
Now I'm at 64K miles.
5/18/2017 (almost exactly two years later, 27K miles later)
I'm having rough cold starts with misfires. Today it actually stalled on me. I've had two bad coils - so I've since replaced all 4 coils, and all 4 spark plugs (1 coil and spark plugs were under warranty).
I have the mail somewhere about the extended warranty on the HPFP. I'm hoping that's the issue.
I have a service appointment this Friday, w/ a loaner. Fingers crossed.
Haven't had the valves cleaned - hoping not to get a run around..
Feel free to see my service history....: http://www.fuelly.com/car/mini/coope...chewy13/448255

Most parts installed by MINI are 2 years unlimited miles. So check on that also.

I figured this may be the best place to ask -
My 2012 S (02/2012 build) with 49k miles seems to keep popping up misfire Cyl 1 code. Even though I replaced the plugs and coils less than 1000miles ago. I clear the code and it comes back....Could this be HPFP issue? If so, I checked my VIN online and there were no open recalls or anything about HPFP extended warranty. Where did you other N18 guys find out if you had extended warranty on your HPFPs ?
Thanks

I recently purchased a 2008 Mini Cooper S for my daughter who is in college and living away from home. She loves Mini and has actually had 3 (one was totaled when someone ran a stop sign and the other suffered a timing chain failure and is now being rebuilt in my spare time). I picked this Mini up for a good price and I knew that I was going to have some work to do on it. The service record shows that the thermostat housing and water pump have been replaced (in 2013). It has had regular oil changes, and the timing chain sounds good so far.
I've already replaced the MAF, vacuum pump, and throttle body. I've also had the valves walnut blasted.
The engine still surges at idle, though. It's not constant but it is frequent. The engine doesn't completely stop running but it's an obvious surge in RPM and it feels like it's close to stopping. I don't notice an issue while moving.
This is the same symptom that I had on a previous 2009 Cooper S and when the High Pressure Fuel Pump was replaced under warranty, the problem stopped.
I know that Mini USA extended the warranty to 10 years or 120,000 miles (this car was produced Aug 2008 and has only 63k) so it's just a few months out of warranty. I'd like to ask MINI USA to consider replacing this possibly faulty fuel pump. Has anyone had any success with this? Can anyone offer any friendly, helpful advice? Does anyone know where and to whom such a letter should be sent?
I would appreciate any help that this community can provide. Thanks!

Worth a call to the dealership and ask.

Sorry, I should have also mentioned that I have called the dealership and they've explained the process for a "Goodwill Replacement". The process, as it was explained to me, was to pay for a diagnostic scan ($187) to see if the HPFP showed up as faulty. Then I would have to pay for repairs (~$1400) then they would send the paperwork to MiniUSA to ask for consideration for full or partial coverage. If MiniUSA agreed, it would be great, of course. But if they do not, I pay $1400 for a relatively easy replacement of a $950 part. I'd rather buy your part (3514192) for $520 put it on myself and see if MiniUSA would reimburse since this is a known and potentially hazardous issue and my vehicle is just out of the extended warranty period by a few months.
But to do so, I'd have to know how to precisely address a request like this.

Ok, i did not know, thanks for the info
You got the letter for the vehicle correct? I will have to look at mine to see what exactly it states. I thought it said they would pay up front if deemed faulty after you pay for the diagnosis.. They have to prove that's it, for the diagnosis.
Customer Relations at (866) ASK-MINI or MINI.Assistance@askMINIUSA.com might be worth a try. If its still not clear you could just get it through us and then try to do something for reimbursement down the road.
