Speedometer stuck

Hey Everyone, New to Mini's and this site.

my GF picked up an 03 mini, so it looks like i'll be scanning these forums quite frequently. Less than 40k miles, but i can already see the BMW gremlins coming out.

The biggest problem right now is the Speedometer is stuck at 60 mph. No warning lights, that's all I know. Using the search feature, I gathered the rear passenger side wheel has most of the sensors. What should I be looking for?

This is the main thing I would like to work out right now. Other recent items would be the dead drivers Window, the DSC switch doing nothing, and the stiff power steering(dying motor is my guess)

hrm. looks like the fuel gauge is stuck as well. The computer is still calculating range though.

I hate cars with electric issues.

I've never heard of a MINI speedo being stuck. The power steering pump fan going would be my biggest concern since they have been notorious for causing engine bay fires.

If you haven't already try disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery(in the trunk) pressing the brake and waiting about 10-15 minutes before you reconnect. Everything should be reset electrically. It's worth a shot.

worth a go.
after browsing about 4 forums i've found a handful of people with stuck speedo's.

Some were able to fix it with computer resets, and others needed new speedo's. Apparently the computer can go crazy with calculations.

I can get to the system settings, but I couldnt find something like looked like a system reset to i left that alone.

Unhooking the battery did indeed reset the speedo back to nil, but soon after it stuck again .

anyone else have an idea?

edit: the needle is smooth under 30, but over 30mph you can tell it's have issues. It moving in a jerking motion and it way off my actual speed. Tested with 2 GPS units. it's about 20-30mph off.

I would suggest leaving it broken until you get a speeding ticket. that way you can rightfully claim it was faulty equipment
I just took my speedo out of my 04 Mini, which has an issue with backlighting. There seem to be little white blocks on the circuit board relating to the each of the needles on the speedo. Perhaps if you have time you can take the speedo out (it doesn't take much and there is someone on this forum that gave great documentation on removing your speedo) and check to see if there is any visual fault to it.
Just a thought.
BTW, I think the system reset is the last test of the system tests (test 21). To get there, you have to first unlock the other available systems (only 1 and 2 are unlocked) by going to test 19 and hitting the off selection. You will then have access to other tests. I like test 2, where all the lights and readouts come on and go through a sequence. I hope this helps some.
