Air Conditioning running hot 10-20 secs.

This is my first post here, so I'll do my best to supply all the info on my car problem.

Summary: When starting my Mini and the AC is turned on, after 1 minute of running it blows out hot (not warm, but hot) air for 10-20 seconds. Then the cold air finally comes out.

Info: I own a 2005 Mini Cooper S Convertible. The problem with the AC only started this summer. The issue happens no matter if it's hot out or if the car is started in the cold of morning. If I turn off the car and start it again, the problem happens again.

I took it in for service last weekend and after convincing the Service Advisor that yes, this was happening and no, I wasn't making it up, he finally agreed to have the mechanic took at it. After the 55K tune up he said the mechanic found nothing. But when driving the car home form the dealer it happened again.

So, has anyone had this same issue? It's quite annoying especially when it happens on a hot day.

I think the the AC in the MINI is pretty weak. I have auto climate and I dont think I have ever reached the a temp I have set. Probably the best way to test is get one of those laser temp guns and see what temp the air is coming out and then ask a tech what factory spec should be. I would bet its not as cold.

I haven't noticed what you've described. The Mini's AC operates a bit different than those in my other cars. After turning ON the AC, it takes about 10-15 seconds for the AC clutch to grab the pulley. With my other cars, it's activated immediately. The Mini's also takes longer to cool.
