Windows are possessed

On our '09 Clubman S the driver's side window won't stay up. When I push up (either auto or manual), the window goes up to the top and then immediately back down to half-way. I read through a few window threads and they didn't seem to be quite this problem, and the reset procedure did not work.

Any suggestions before I head off to the dealer?

window issues are common with BMW products. Dealer should cover it.

Yep, time for a dealer trip. Mine have "lost" their programming four or five times in the past year and a half. Takes the dealer around six hours to reinitialize the system. Lots of people report replacing the "footwell module" will take care of the problem. No parts have been replaced for me yet.

The BMW service manager told me to run both the windows up and down once a week to reduce this problem.

Me too..............

Just last week (Nov 27 to be exact) the same thing happened to me, or rather to my 2009 Clubman.

It is going in to the dealer on Friday. Should I just let them do their re-setting thing, or should I mention this website and all of the people who are having the same problem???

My car does this every once in a while but going thru the reset has fixed it every time.

1. Hold window button to the up position for a minimum of a real 15 seconds

2. Then immediately press it down to the down position and hold it for a minimum of a real 15 seconds.

Check the seconds on a watch or other time device that has a second hand or read out so that you know it has been at least 15 seconds.

If this does not work then the dealer will have to reprogram the car.

Will print and keep handy.....

Thanks for the re-set instructions. I will keep a copy in my car.

But, my thought, after reading all of the postings about this problem, is to make sure that I have gone on record at the dealership with it. My car is 6mo old, 7500mi. I don't want to get to the end of my warranty and find that this is still an issue, or has gotten worse. Obviously at that point it would be MY problem and not theirs.

They are so hot on customer satisfaction, it seems we would be doing them a favor by pointing out any and all instances of malfunction. As a 20yr Mazda driver, with never a problem, this was a leap of faith for me. But, it is so cute, and seemed to be so solid and well engineered, I could not resist. And, the sales team practically begged me to bring it in for the most minor things.... washer fluid, vacuuming, etc.

I had the same issues. The dealer had to repalce the footwell module. The windows have been working much better. Now if we could find the idiot at Mini that can not engineer rain gutters so I don't get soaked when it's raining out.

FYI the 2nd gen car is much better at deflecting rain than the first gen car.
