what up everybody,
this is something i noticed as soon as i got into my mini for the first time, but cant figure out.
on the rev counter, the redline lights up red, and but it extends backwards for ca. another 1000rpms (i think, cant be sure right now), they look as though they are lighted as well but never do. at first i thought that maybe they light up when the car is cold, but that never happens either.
can anyone explain to me whether or not they should light up; are mine broken?
just curious,

thanks in advance

peter

I was told that the unlit graduations will come on at colder temps to lower your "red line". My MCS is garaged, I live in Tacoma, WA. Mine have never come on.

I had heard somewhere that MINI uses the same tachometer for MINI One, Cooper, and Cooper S, and that the tach is programmed to light up to indicate the redline for the model it's installed in.

mine does the same, it is used on all the models so that is why it does it.
