Noise Question!

Just picked up my S tonight. When I got home I noticed that there was a tapping noise coming from under the hood. Almost like a lifter tapping but not as loud. Dealer said it's normal and it's due to Direct Injection.
I can hear the injectors clicking on my other two cars, but are direct injectors really that noisy?

Quoted "there is an electric water pump that is flowing water through the turbo for quite some time after we shut our cars off. So if i push my mini hard on a hot day, there is no need when i return home to have the engine running for a min or so (idle). Ill just turn of the engine as soon as i arrive and then let the electric pump to do the thing its supposed to do and stops by its own when it feels like it should!"

Hmmm...mine doesn't do that! Maybe you got the "Lawrence Welk" edition ....Ah one...an a two...

Okay, Okay...I'm not a comedian!

On the serious side: I don't think your dealer is trying to get one past you as BMW pays them for the work since it's under warranty. To be safe, I'd go back to the service department and get a "second" opinion!

I get the noise while the engine is running at idle. After listening to another one, I guess it's the injectors

Same here...2010 and it taps a bit, like so many other 4 poppers I've heard. I think it is the direct injection, it's a bit noisier than a 4 pod without. I hear mine a bit more when it's in the garage, a little amplified in there. I'm very **** retentive, and even the direct injectors don't bother me. It sounded louder to me when I first got it, but it was my first "direct injection" and I had read in magazines they made a little noise. After time and a couple of thousand miles...just a MINI...

Direct injection is inherently noisier than the port injection in your other 2 rides. What you're hearing is probably normal. Then again, hopefully it's not your timing chain...

Thanks guys. Definitely not the chain. Noise is coming from air cleaner housing area. In the area of the injectors.

It's your Direct Injection system doing that tapping. 100% normal. Have a good day.

Noise engine

I too have a noisy lifter ticking sound on my 2007 mini cooper s. I've already had the timing chain and related parts replaced. And the dealer tech told me the same line of crap. I'm looking for any disgruntled mini owners in the charlotte nc, or Winston Salem nc, area that can't get their issues resolved. Lets go picket the Flow Mini Dealership until we get our issues resolved. What good is a warranty if they won't fix the car.
