Aux Input Fails after 10-15 minutes 05 MCS

Hi,
My auxilliary input jack fails after 10-15 minutes of use with iPhone. It's just a stereo input jack the dealer installed in my glove box back when I purchased the car in '05.

What happens is that, after a while, the Aux input just seems to short out, shut off, and switch to FM radio. The Aux input item on the radio is then not available as an option unless I turn off the radio and unplug the iPhone.

I noticed this only occurs when the iPhone is connected to the AC charger. If not charging, this Aux input works forever.

This problem is not isolated to iPhone, but also occurs with my iPod.

You need to add a "ground loop isolator", the power works its way through the aux and makes the radio think the aux port isn't connected.

Here's one from eBay. Installs on the 3.5mm strereo connector to the AUX input.

I just had this SAME EXACT problem with my 06' MCS with a Sirius Stilleto 2 Car dock that was installed today. Well, come to find out even when I plug my iPod in, the same problem occurs! What is the fix if the AUX input is tripped regardless of what is plugged in? I was going to order a GLI, but don't think that is my primary issue here. Any input?

If you get the problem only when your iPod is connected to external power (such as cigarette lighter), then a GLI will probably fix it. If the problem still happens even if the iPod is only running off its battery, the GLI won't help.

I see that the Sirius Stiletto is a portable player. Are you plugging it into external power? That's what could trip up the aux and could be fixed by a GLI. If you have the problem even while you're not using external power, you'll have to find some other fix.

I used to have this issue when I charged my iPod and played it through the AUX at the same time. I lowered the AUX volume gain from where I had it (max) to a few notches down and now it works perfectly. I now have to turn the volume up a bit more either on the radio or on the iPod to get the same level of volume as I did before, but thats not an issue.

It seemed to just trip the aux when the Sirius was plugged into the dock with power. Now it even trips if the iPod or other battery powered device is plugged in. The car is under warranty still & I have a very good relationship with the service dept at my dealer. (yeah that's rare, lol, although I know the techs & the service manager, they're all car guys too) I just ordered a PAC GLI for the powered stuff, but what should we look for as a culprit if it still trips with battery only powered devices?

If it still cuts out while under battery power, the aux cable/connector could be defective, or your own cable that goes between the player and the aux jack.

Here's one thing you could check. With nothing at all plugged into the aux, put the radio into aux mode. It should stay in aux mode forever until you switch to another mode (sorry but during the test you won't be able to listen to anything). If it does lose aux mode on its own even with nothing plugged in, it is caused by a bad aux cable or bad connection where it plugs into the radio.

I suppose that theoretically something could also go wrong with aux mode inside the radio, but let's not think about that.

Great. I left the aux with nothing plugged in for 10 min+ & it didn't shut off. I also plugged my iPod under battery power in with the volume at 3/4 and it was fine. The culprit must be this Ground Loop with the DC power plugged in. Thanks for the info guys!
