Most any machined part with bearings you get exactly what you pay for....
i bet the cheap cv/axels would do fine on a mini one (low hp mini not sold in the us), but to try to run one on an upgraded car...ouch. we know the stock ones sre fine and had a warrenty on the jcw210 hp cars...
This whole thread makes me think it is a repeat of the alternator threads...
Cheap part, good warrenty...you just get a new replacent part every year or so...so you must spend tons of time and maybe a tow....

Race Axels

Way,

Your site has Race Axels at $900 a pair.

Are they specially made for you? Do they need to be installed in pairs? If not, can you buy them separately?

Have you used any other, non OEM, axles with any success?

I have been replacing parts with upgrades on Artoo, my 2003MCS. I love the ATI Damper for instance. But $900 a pair seems steep.

What are your thoughts?

Rich

Well, I went with one from Amazon for now. I figure what I will do is keep the bad one and have it rebuilt as a reserve. I just can't afford a $400-$500 axle right now. Maybe next year. This one has a 12 month warranty, so that's good enough for me for now.

Now the question is, can I replace it myself. I sure am gonna give it a shot.

Absolutely!!! My motto is this: Is a mechanic really "smarter" than I am?

If one has the mindset that he/ she can do something, they'll do it! Plus, what's the worst thing that's going to happen? Is the axle going to break?

Get to it and when it's all done, you'll sit back and say "That random NAM user was right! I'm a BEAST!"

I just got off the phone with my local NAPA store.

There reman shafts as listed on the web are not currently available.

They quoted me $145.00 for a new shaft assembly, but it is a FEQ brand part.

What to do?

Well I was searching around for info on axles. Was looking at FEQ...money is tight. Doesn't seem to be a popular move. The boot has been torn for about 3 weeks (that I know of). NO noise that I can hear. Are new boots possibly a good way to go?
