Gauge auto test wierdness at startup.

So, recently, when I start my 2004 MCS, I notice the guages are not going thourgh the normal range of motion on startup. They used to go up then down, then to whatever the reading is (I think I have that order right) and were totally silent.

Now, I usually hear a buzzing sound and see the needles of the fuel and temp gauges pegging low and boucing off the peg like a vibration for the same duration as the old test used to take. Then it goes to what seems like the corret reading. As far as I can tell, the gauges all read fine and have not had them refuse to work.

Is this a sign of future problems though?

Since all the gauges are acting up, it might be the voltage. I'd take it to one of the national chains and get a free battery/alternator/voltage regulator check.
