MINI is cutting off when i start it up. i think its the fuel pump

Well today at lunchtime i was headed to school and my 04 MCS just randomly started sputtering and started to loose power. It randomly revved up to about 4000 rpm and then shut off. I started it back up and managed to baby it into a local barber shops parking lot. Now when I go to start it up, it starts fine, runs for about two seconds and cuts off. I think it might be the fuel pump, but has anybody had any similar problems or know anything else it might be? Any possibilities would help. Thanks!

I am having the same problem right now. My 03' MCS is in the shop. Thinking it's either a fuel pump or vacuum leak! Good luck, i'll let you know my outcome once my mechanic tells me this weekend!

Well I got a new fuel pump from the factory today and got it put in and everything is going fine so far. If anything else pops up, I'll be sure to post about it.

MINIs do not have a Mass Airflow Sensor. They are set up using Speed Density, which involves two MAP sensors.

Glad to hear it was the fuel pump and it's fixed.

Turns out my problem was my Expansion tank had a crack in it and ran my car out of coolant, and since the temperature sensor is in the top of the container, it wasn't reading my car was overheating. No idea, got a new tank, refilled it, also replaced the valve cover gasket and now my Mini is back in action!!

im confused, i own a shop at witch we make repairs to all cars trucks ect... work on many land rovers & minis . we have recently finished a restoration of a 52 riley. im currently working on a 08 mini cooper and it does have a mass air flow sensor , the terminology may be different how ever all three of the scan tools the we use show mass air info . this car also has three mass air flow codes , it stumbles during a cold start & stalls from time to time. a week ago the car was in our shop with miss fire codes for cylinders one and two in looking for the cause we found alot of carbon build up and did three back to back fuel system cleanings afterwords ran great
