I'm sure most of you are tired of threads related to the rattle, but one question I'm trying to get a handle on is just how wide-spread is the problem.

At first I thought it's just a small % (< 15), but after following this issue for better than two years, (and getting the problem myself at around 19K) I'm starting to think it's by far the majority of the cars with at least 25K miles.

I had the new tensioner installed last December, but now I learn that the "real" fix is a new timing chain. I don't put many miles on my car (2007 s purchaed in August '07), so I'll probably be out of warranty when my first "fix" fails, and I'll have to pay for the timing chain myself....that really stinks.

So, my request is to hear from 2007 or greater 'S' owners (turbo, not cabrios with superchargers) that have > 25K miles and have NEVER had the problem. My hope is that I'll get many responses, which will give me a little more confidence in my car, but I'm not too optimistic. I realize the engine has only been on the market for a little more than 3 years, but I'm sure there are still quite a few of you that use your car as a daily driver and have racked up quite a few miles.

No rattle problem here. 53k miles.

 

29K miles, and no rattle.

 

Hmmm...only two responses...maybe those with no chatter (or other problems) don't check the "problems" threads.....Or maybe there aren't many minis with that many miles......Or the number of "chatter-free" turbo Minis is VERY low.......or all the above....thoughts?

 

I check and have had other issues, not the rattle issue.

 

29k miles with no rattle problems. But did just have the carbon build up problem in the intake valves at just a little over 28k.

 

2008 MCS, around 26k miles with no cold start rattle problems, but have had other problems ex, windows motor, clutch...
